William Schwartz HanCinema The 8th Night is not a particularly weird movie, although there's definite menace in the atmosphere. Kim conjures up little atmosphere for what purports to be a supernatural chiller. Rated: 2/5 Jul 12, 2021 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Filled with stylistically chilling imagery, The 8th Night is a somewhat convoluted supernatural horror movie, but the suspenseful and surprising twists can make up for the film's messy final showdown scene. Justin T I enjoyed this film. It had a complex array of character motivations that kept the film interesting even though it was a bit slow at times. The ending is great. It's the personalities that carry the movie. There is an interesting lore and core story. Some of the special effects near the end were a bit unimaginative. It has beautiful cinematography and has excellent sound design. If you fail to engage with the characters then I could see that the film would be boring. This almost feels like a new genre, the spaghetti horror, as it shares similarities with spaghetti western films. Overall I enjoyed it but apart from a handful of moments it's pretty forgettable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Gabriel S Je8ileui bam, The Eighth Night, in free translation, shows how a mix of folklore and horror marry very well, culminating in a story interesting enough to hook us until the end. Following a Buddhist legend, The Eighth Night follows an age-old tradition to protect the world from Hell. An ancient monster, sealed by Buddha, eventually returns to try to climb all the stones and get to the virgin shaman. Their success would seal the fate of humanity, bringing chaos. To avert this disaster, Buddha appointed anonymous guardians who, from generation to generation, seek to maintain the balance of the world. The Eighth Night has the characteristics of an Eastern horror film. Tormented spirits, shamans and monks, sacred amulets, in The Eighth Night, we have all of this with the use of CGI and practical effects that are pleasing to the eye. However, this film is not perfect. The final events of the story feel a bit like "gotcha!" with unexpected twists and turns that the story doesn't suggest are possible. Another negative factor is the arc of the characters in general that is resolved in an abrupt and emotionless way, lacking that connection with the audience, perhaps existing in the original manuscript or in cut scenes. The Eighth Night appeals to horror fans and people accustomed to Eastern horror, but its folk story could focus more on developing the main characters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review Ronald S If not for the acting of some of the characters, the show was completely forgettable. The pacing was not good and the horror elements were too weak. Would not recommend even if watching for fun. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review Badass M I love this movie great action Great Story The Story was terrifying lol and There are some parts that of it That Gave me the chills Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/23 Full Review avindu g A good origin so much similar to It Follows. Good realistic acting. Visuals are excellent and fitting. However the story had reflections of a tiger but turned out to be just a kitten. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very slow movie! It was very painful to watch! The only reason it got 2 1/2 stars, is because some of the actors did a good job. I would not Recommend this movie to anyone. There are plenty of others you can watch or other things you can do instead. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
