Critics Consensus

Ardor sacrifices compelling storytelling to deliver an ecological message that, albeit commendable, translates into an arduous experience.

Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times By the time we reached the climactic and fantastically over-the-top showdown, I realized that while the characters were indeed trying to corner the market on smoldering glances, faux-Shakespearean proclamations and in-your-face symbolism... Rated: 3/4 Aug 14, 2015 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com As good-looking as the movie and its stars are, "Ardor," whose title refers to a literal state of burning, never manages to catch fire. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 17, 2015 Full Review Daniel M. Gold New York Times "Ardor" lacks tension, maybe because the actors are playing archetypes: Little is said, and there are few surprises. Jul 17, 2015 Full Review Benjamín Harguindey EscribiendoCine It's a western set in the (beautiful) missionary jungle with two fight scenes and a swift sex scene suitable for young audiences, and that's sufficient. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Apr 30, 2024 Full Review Demetrios Matheou The Arts Desk It's much better once the action gets going, as Bernal and Braga escape into the jungle and slowly turn the tables on their pursuers. Rated: 3/5 Nov 22, 2017 Full Review Alex Heeney Seventh Row [Ardor] is so stylized and over-the-top, that it's hard to take any serious message it might be aiming at with more than a grain of salt, which is a shame. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/23/22 Full Review Audience Member la verdad muy aburrida,no me gusto 4/10 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member slow and laborious film where a drifter emerges from the Argentinian jungle to save a woman from a machete wielding gang Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty much a western in a jungle setting, but a more than competent one. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Zelden zo´n slechte film gezien.
