Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com Sadly, it ultimately builds to a would-be shocking twist that is not nearly the game-changer it claims to be, leaving viewers with more questions than answers. Rated: 2/4 Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Catherine Bray Guardian The Astronaut has a lot going for it, but, like the lead character in the opening scenes, it doesn’t quite stick the landing. Rated: 3/5 Sep 16, 2025 Full Review Lovia Gyarkye The Hollywood Reporter Varley’s grip, her taut observation of nerve-wracking isolation, loosens and the film devolves into a blunt and clichéd consideration of family. The transition is awkward, and more cartoonish than moving, as the performers try to regain their footing. Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Michael Gingold Rue Morgue Magazine What’s missing for most of the running time is a sense that movie is about anything more than it appears on the surface. Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue As it unravels a mystery with potentially widespread ramifications, the bold twist at the end seems to come from another planet. Oct 17, 2025 Full Review Julian Roman MovieWeb The Astronaut confounds and intrigues as a completely illogical narrative leads to a whopper conclusion. Most will find it ridiculous, but suspending disbelief does allow for a modicum of thrills. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 17, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Patrick C I watched it all the way through, but man, this was awful. There's zero chemistry between mother, daughter, father; There's a useless storyline about the protagonist and Fishburne's character; There's also the fact that Laurence Fishburne was absolutely underused and constrained by the plodding script. This movie could have been so much more! I'm sad that it fails because of its writing and its underuse of its actors (who were all trying really hard), although The Astronaut (Kate Mara) was absolutely wooden Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/12/25 Full Review Ben N I liked this a lot more than I expected to! It reminded me of old movies like Signs and ET and thankfully wasn't 2.5 hrs long. Felt like maybe it got trimmed down a touch too much but it was short enough that it keep me engaged the whole time. The twist was insane and in a world of spoilers I'm glad I didn't know what was coming. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/25 Full Review Jack e The exact amount of bonkers we expect in 2025. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/11/25 Full Review Colby L Even though it's out there I would take it over another crappy studio sequel any day. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/11/25 Full Review Ray N Seeing a woman choose herself over her child is refreshing tbh. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/09/25 Full Review B Y Appears to be above all else a case study on no frills sci fi filmmaking with one actress in isolation walking around a safe house that may or may not be occupied. As strictly a filmmaking exercise in a world with limited arts funding perhaps its "mission accomplished". Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
