Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com Sadly, it ultimately builds to a would-be shocking twist that is not nearly the game-changer it claims to be, leaving viewers with more questions than answers. Rated: 2/4 Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Catherine Bray Guardian The Astronaut has a lot going for it, but, like the lead character in the opening scenes, it doesn’t quite stick the landing. Rated: 3/5 Sep 16, 2025 Full Review Lovia Gyarkye The Hollywood Reporter Varley’s grip, her taut observation of nerve-wracking isolation, loosens and the film devolves into a blunt and clichéd consideration of family. The transition is awkward, and more cartoonish than moving, as the performers try to regain their footing. Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media Writer-director Jess Varley delivers an engrossing, intriguing "after space" story that's only really weighed down by some low-orbit visual effects. Rated: 3/5 Nov 20, 2025 Full Review Michael Gingold Rue Morgue Magazine What’s missing for most of the running time is a sense that movie is about anything more than it appears on the surface. Oct 18, 2025 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue As it unravels a mystery with potentially widespread ramifications, the bold twist at the end seems to come from another planet. Logan D An astronaut (Kate Mara) crash lands and has injuries of unknown causes. While quarantined in a secluded local, she suspects an extraterrestrail force may have followed her back to earth. Sporting an atmosphere of dread rather than alien action, this film mostly takes place in a confined setting, giving it the effect of isolation and personal horror. Mara give a good performance and carries the film but, sadly, the build up is better than the resolution. Enjoyable but not memorable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/25 Full Review Brian M Kate Mara threw down in this role and the entire cast was outstanding... including singer Macy Gray in a surprising cameo. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/01/25 Full Review Mauricio C Genuinely one of the most captivating movies I've seen in years. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/01/25 Full Review Gemma G This was an absolutely AWFUL movie. I'm not one to write reviews on things like this, but this movie was atrocious. Don't waste your time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/25 Full Review Sophia K I tried not to read spoilers online before watching and was totally caught off guard by the ending. I think watching blind is the way to go which is almost impossible to do these days but worth it for this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/27/25 Full Review Nick E The story of this movie is so primitive and silly as if a child wrote the script, even good acting of Kate and Laurence didn't pull this off.
