Reuniting Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon on screen for the first time in twenty years, THE BEST YOU CAN is a sharp, touching, and laugh-out-loud exploration of change, losing our bearings, and finding connection in the most unexpected places. This character-driven comedy is a reminder that sometimes the people who understand us best are the ones who are nothing like us.

It’s clear that the irrepressibly charming Sedgwick and Bacon love to share the screen, and it is an absolute joy to watch their effortless chemistry. I just wish it were in a better picture. Go to Full Review

The boomer afflictions that create the situations in “The Best You Can” -- physical, mental, financial, attitudinal -- are handled gently, though with enough weight to provide a foundation for the charm brought by Ms. Sedgwick and Mr. Bacon. Go to Full Review
Caryn James The Hollywood Reporter Jun 10
With strong performances and a fresh premise about an unexpected friendship in middle age, but far too many creaky comic tropes, the uneven film is always watchable but never pops off the screen in a gripping way. Go to Full Review

The romantic dramedy does its best to offer a unique approach to the former formula with its Third Age lead characters and offers them some very sweet moments, but this doesn't entirely help it overcome feeling a bit scattershot in its plot. Go to Full Review

The Best You Can is a predictable but appealing comedy/drama about a divorced security guard and an unhappily married urologist whose unlikely friendship turns into something more. The performances and amusing banter are the main reasons to watch. Go to Full Review

That The Best You Can is far too easy a film to invest in affectionately will diverge audiences, to be sure. Go to Full Review

See more Robert S @rodash 1d It's wonderful to see these fine actors together again onscreen in a heartwarming story supported by an excellent cast. See more Theresa G @Terri1843 Dec 10 Touching, sweet movie, we didn’t expect much! We’re glad we picked it and impressed that Sedgwick and Bacon were co-producers. See more Mark A. @drfoto Dec 2 Much more than I expected. The story is about relationships and how they unfold on their own paths and timelines. The cast work well together and the chemistry between Bacon and Sedgwick is the spark that carries the movie. While light moments partially balance the greater depth of the storyline elements, don’t expect laugh-out-loud comedy. Bacon does the comedic lifting in the role of a rough around the edges security guard. Sedgwick fields the more serious challenges of career and a more senior partner in a long marriage. Very true to life, the story underscores unexpected turns and how the willingness to embrace and work through hardship reveal the meaningful rewards further down the road. See more Linda S Nov 29 A delightful film that will make you want to see more of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick together. Maybe a Season 2?? The last few scenes will whiplash from beautifully-written seriousness to joyful fun, and will have you dancing out of the room with an uncontrollable grin. See more Read all reviews
