Internationally acclaimed at Venice, Berlin, SXSW and beyond, writer-director Teemu Nikki's darkly humorous Finnish romance becomes a cinematically unusual action-thriller, empathetically shot from the shallow-focus perspective of a character (and real-life actor) who is blind and unable to walk. The brightest moments in movie lover Jaakko's day are shared on the phone with Sirpa, the woman he loves even though they've never met in person. When Sirpa gets difficult news, Jaako decides he must go to her immediately, but will need the help of kind strangers between home and her... what could go wrong?

Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is maybe the best movie I've seen so far this year... It's a full-scale performance and a terrific movie. Feb 15, 2023 Full Review Kristen Lopez TheWrap There’s certainly enough charm to spare from the film’s leads, but the storytelling too often relies on disabled people in peril and other tropes that simply regurgitate what we’ve seen. Feb 3, 2023 Full Review Monica Castillo RogerEbert.com A charming premise that then turns into a suspense movie. Rated: 3.5/4 Feb 3, 2023 Full Review Paul Emmanuel Enicola The Movie Buff Poikolainen’s performance through clenched teeth moved me in ways that only a handful of films did in recent years. Rated: B+ Jul 7, 2024 Full Review Zach Youngs InSession Film The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic is certainly off the beaten path, but well worth the journey. Rated: B+ Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast The film's unique visual style compliments Petri Poikolainen's terrific performance in Teemu Nikki's funny, tense and very moving film about the universal pleasures that connect us. David S Tough to watch, but powerful. It was described as "darkly humorous." It's definitely dark, somewhat depressing really, but there is very little humor. It's a film that will certainly make you think. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review dave d Petri Poikolainen is 'The Blind Man Who Did Not Want to See Titanic' and it's one of the most unique love stories put to film. There is a jarring shift in the film about midway through which could take you out of the film, but it is totally plausible and done really well. The film is shot in such a unique way that it feels like you're in the wheelchair. The camera is at eye level for our titular character which works to make the impact of the final scene that much more powerful. Final Score: 8.4/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
