Vienna S Too painful to watch. Has so many discrepancies and ridiculous scenes and has very little resemblance to the actual story. Very disappointed i. The writer and producer that would market this without a disclaimer at the beginning indicating their film was a screwy mixup concoction having very little resemblance to the actual Bible Story. See One Night with a King instead. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/19/23 Full Review Audience Member "The Book of Esther" has all of the gloss and polish of a hallmark card, replete with frivolous performances and shallow character depth that combine to produce a painful air of superficiality. When viewing a period film, one hungers for authenticity, as the medium of cinema offers the only true vehicle into an immersion experience in exotic times long past. The best of these films convince us that we are time travelers, the worst embarrass us with their poorly hidden modern contrivances. It is one thing for such a film to unwisely employ CGI to reinforce historic themes, but "The Book of Esther" cinches an anachronistic result through the scattered use of CGI that is especially cheesy and self-aware. For a deeper and more resonant insight into this films themes, consider simply looking to the bible itself. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member We watch this movie every Purim ever since its discovery. The actors are wonderfully depicted and Esther is a stunning beauty as Queen. Robert Milano is one of my personal favorite actors since I first saw him in Phantasmagoria as Zoltan Carnovasch. This film is perfect for the entire family, Clean, Pure and straight to the Point. Wouldn't change a thing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The Biblical story of Esther is one that I have heard since I was a child. I am genealogist and researcher. I loved the movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Good movie even with the added dramatic scenes that are not in the Bible Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member What could've been an inspiring tale of a woman whose faith and courage earns her a spot next to other gigantic Biblical titans such as David, Joseph, Moses and Joshua ends up being an uneventful film that's as stale as bread left out on the counter for a month. Ironically, for being a story that's actually out of the Bible, it's considerably less preachy than God's Not Dead. However, what this film may lack in unintentional cheese it certainly makes up for with its "this was filmed at a local church fundraiser with party store props" quality.
