Critics Consensus

While it's missing some of the magic of the original, The Christmas Chronicles 2 serves up a sweet second helping of holiday cheer that makes the most of its marvelously matched leads.

"The Christmas Chronicles 2" - so typical of holiday fare in the streaming era - is more convincing as a reminder that we're sometimes justified in lamenting what we've lost. Go to Full Review

Chris Columbus takes over the reins as director and binges on the cheesy digital effects, but his story does dash off into an exciting new direction as it revisits the origins of Santa. Go to Full Review

Michael Shane B @KVD1969 Jan 3 Now a cynical teenager, Kate Pierce is reunited with Santa Claus when a mysterious troublemaker threatens to destroy the North Pole and end Christmas forever. See more Stijn D @Stijn259 Dec 30 While the first movie didn’t disappoint, this one did. The story itself is good, but unlike the first movie, which was for the whole family, this one fails to appeal to teenagers and adults. Kurt Russell and Darby Camp once again nailed their roles as Santa and Kate, but it’s disappointing that Teddy (Judah Lewis) has such a small role and is replaced by a kid who thinks he's the main character. The movie has many childish moments that made me want to stop watching. It was interesting to see the movie cover Santa’s origins, but later it fails to clearly explain the villain’s goal, which can be confusing for kids. As someone who overthinks details, the time-travel scene felt complicated. Kids won’t notice this, but realistically the triple-A-powered device would have created 3 alternate realities: one where Santa and Kate returned, one where they never did, and one where Doug met his future daughter. While not as good as the first movie, Christmas Chronicles 2 is still worth a watch. See more Tim D Dec 29 Leave it to Netflxx to ruin a really fun, really good concept for the sake of social awareness. Yes Part II likely killed what could have been an annual release for at least a couple more movies. Such a shame. See more Ryan B @Ryan2009 Dec 27 Overall, it's not a bad movie the worst part is that they had to go back in time what was the meaning in that they couldn't have gone to a different country I really like the part they featured younger Kate's dad. My favourite part is the detail of the village very beautiful it's still a really nice movie See more Nancy J @Ella_43 Dec 23 It is obvious the first one will always be better and remembered more as a great story, however the second movie is still good with the Christmas cheesy drama vibe that is enjoyable to anyone who dosnt dramatically compare it to the first. Must see after watching the first one! See more Dan S @DSav7 Dec 23 Not as good as the first but still great See more Read all reviews
