Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Train inaccuracies aside, The Christmas Train is pleasant enough pabulum for viewers who seek comfort viewing. Fans of more complicated, well written TV can let this train pass them by and turn their attention to... Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Nov 27, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

R 9 'The Christmas Train', in short: Strong cast, lame plot. I did enjoy those onscreen, but I just didn't find any entertainment with the story - which, due to the ending (which I did see coming, but was hoping I was wrong), only gets less and less watchable. If you are wanting an Xmas train film, much better ones are out there - I'm looking at you, 'The Polar Express' or even 'Last Train to Christmas'. Kimberly Williams-Paisley gives a positive showing, I'd say this is the best I've seen from her in the Hallmark world thus far. Dermot Mulroney and Danny Glover are good as well, though the latter's character is very dull. Joan Cusack is involved too. The support cast are decent too, usually in these sorta films the acting level is relatively low but here it's solid. Unfortunately for those mentioned, the plot they are portraying just didn't hold my attention and I was rather bored; even if it isn't anything wholly 'bad', per se. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Kristin C Classic, traditional , heart felt. The cable Christmas movie that touches our memories, giving us the magic of Christmas feelings. This is one of the good ones, I will watch year after year. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review James C I thought the movie was great. Similar at the end to the Max Peter Falk Christmas movies but didn't know it until the end. I would highly recommend watching this film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Elephant Insight P Two things totally suck about this movie. The first is that this film casts outstanding actress Joan Cusak as a meddling, old biddy and meh actor Dermot Mulroney as a dashing lead for two hot, young babes, when THEY ARE THE SAME AGE! Second is no train exists in the US with such luxurious cabins, and classy service. The scenese werea ll shot in fake sets. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/16/22 Full Review Calvin T Pretty good adaptation of the book. Good casting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/12/22 Full Review Audience Member The plot was trite and formulaic, with no tension or suspense. The actors were all fine. A testament to the acting ability rather than the script. It wouldn't really have tested them. The characters were all 1 dimensional. Even the kids were cute and non-confrontational, with all the personality sucked from them. This would have just been a forgettable film, but the attempted plot twist pushed it over the edge into pure rubbish. It made no sense whatsoever and smacks of a desperate last ditch effort to put SOMETHING noteworthy in the film. The movie equivalent of styrofoam packing chips.
