Critics Consensus

The zombie apocalypse genre is crowded with clichés, but The Cured sets itself slightly apart with some extra BRAAAAAAAAAAINS and thematic depth.

Kim Newman Empire Magazine Suspenseful and thought-provoking, The Cured is a serious, engaged horror movie. More upsetting than scary, it ratchets up the tension unsettlingly. There's life in zombies yet. Rated: 3/5 May 12, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian My tolerance for zombie acting and zombie drama in the style of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later is never all that high, and the tropes are a bit familiar here. Rated: 2/5 May 11, 2018 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Struggles to move beyond genre clichs. Rated: 2/5 May 10, 2018 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views If you are sick of zombies and pandemics, please do not let that stop you from watching The Cured! In an audaciously nuanced feature film directorial debut, David Freyne creates a world set in Ireland where zombies can be cured, but they remember Jun 12, 2024 Full Review Michael Cuby them. A zombie apocalypse film that’s more interested in exploring the human brain than it is in eating it, The Cured is a good Friday flick for those who like their horror served with a side of psychoanalysis. Oct 3, 2022 Full Review Howard Gorman NME (New Musical Express) It breathes fresh life into the decaying, cliché-crowded zombie genre with its eye-opening realism whilst using the "cured" zombies as a metaphor to explore themes of guilt and forgiveness. Breno G Special Effects: 0,0/Sound Effects: 0,5/Acting: 0,5/Story: 0,5 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Matthew B A unique and surprisingly entertaining take on the zombie genre. This is a somewhat dark and realistic idea of what would happen if zombies were cured and were forced to reassimilate back into society. Things go about as bad as you'd expect and the main antagonist who also happens to be one of said cured infected is surprisingly menacing and convincing in his role. I absolutely love the idea of the infected being able to remember every morbid crime they committed while under the influence of the virus, it opens up the possibility to really dwell into the mental anguish and regret of the characters who have been cured of the affliction. A lot of people seem to really dislike the open ended and unresolved ending of the film but i think it's meant to represent the unsure future of all of humanity and their relationship with the formerly infected individuals, I think it's a nice change of pace from the usual happy ending... not everything is sunshine and daisies people! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Frederico Teixeira G Let’s face it: the Zombie genre died with Romero. Everything else is pretty much crap with very few exceptions. This films try hard to bring something new to the genre but it simply fails Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review Canisha B The constant background noise makes it hard to truly connect with the characters I was truly disappointed because the concept was brilliant but not executed. In my opinion if only they had focused more on what happened and then the solution to what happened this movie had the potential to be absolutely great. I hope it's re done, as I said the concept was brilliant and original. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Neto N Slow movie but at the end it got better with action and suspense. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Nick H The plot of the movie made it seem like it was a decent movie, however the one thing that really ticks me off is when they hire the wrong sound mixers for the movie. I could barely hear the actors speak. The background noise and music drowned out the conversations between the actors. I turned the movies off about 16 minutes into the film. I myself am an amateur video editor. Weddings, short films etc. I personally can see how important it is to get the right level of sound in. To watch an important film made with a decent budget, it's amazing to me how they can get something so simple like this so wrong. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Read all reviews
