See more Tom L Sep 8 Incredibly effective supernatural/possession story with interesting and sympathetic characters and an imaginative and disturbing plot. There are hints of Lovecraftian cosmic horror instead of the same tired demonic possession trope. The story seems to actually borrow some plot elements from Lovecraft’s “Beyond the Wall of Sleep,” but actually improves on that story, which is one of Lovecraft’s lesser works. The suggestion that the evil entity has been causing death and mayhem throughout history also adds to the sense of awe and dread. The “no one believes the main character and thinks he’s insane” element is handled deftly as well, and we are left with an uncertain ending and only brief hints as to the entity’s back story.
