Sarah M Jul 8 As someone who is prepper-adjacent myself, I enjoyed this film immensely. It's rare to see these kinds of communities portrayed at all realistically. It showed some of the mindsets behind disaster preparedness, as well as the darker sides of a paranoid, libertarian, survivalist world-view if taken to its extreme. I appreciated the portrayal of diverse characters, and it was interesting to see how they reacted when the unthinkable happened. It showed the ugliness that is inherent in apocalyptic fantasies, even in those which hard-core preppers like to think they could come out on top. I loved the soundtrack (including an original score by Montreal musician Jason Sharp, and a song by Lhasa de Sela) and the gorgeous landscape of the Laurentians. The "decline" is a perfect description of what began as a pretense of being a thought-provoking commentary on the state of society, to the devlovement of pointless gratuitous, nonsensical gore.
