"The Decline" is lean, credible and well-crafted, even if it never quite makes the leap from efficient suspense machine to something more memorable. Go to Full Review

The film uses its small sample-size of humanity to show that we can’t isolate ourselves from what’s inside of us. And what’s buried inside is often pretty ugly. All of that is wrapped inside of a compelling idea which turns into a fairly stock thriller. Go to Full Review

I'll assure you the action delivers, but the suspense wins in the end. It's all about what you are expecting to see and then being shocked at the high level of execution. Go to Full Review

Directed by Laliberté in freezing conditions in rural Nord-du-Québec, this is a mere 83 minutes and stripped right back to the bone but, nevertheless, we still feel for the characters... Go to Full Review

Sarah M Jul 8 As someone who is prepper-adjacent myself, I enjoyed this film immensely. It's rare to see these kinds of communities portrayed at all realistically. It showed some of the mindsets behind disaster preparedness, as well as the darker sides of a paranoid, libertarian, survivalist world-view if taken to its extreme. I appreciated the portrayal of diverse characters, and it was interesting to see how they reacted when the unthinkable happened. It showed the ugliness that is inherent in apocalyptic fantasies, even in those which hard-core preppers like to think they could come out on top. I loved the soundtrack (including an original score by Montreal musician Jason Sharp, and a song by Lhasa de Sela) and the gorgeous landscape of the Laurentians. See more Spike D May 22 A thought-provoking insight into the mindset of paranoid survivalists soon degenerates into a conventional escape thriller, but it's mostly done well enough to keep you engaged. The "decline" is a perfect description of what began as a pretense of being a thought-provoking commentary on the state of society, to the devlovement of pointless gratuitous, nonsensical gore. In a word - unfulfillment. I like the antagonist as it was cool to see him being admired by his students to hated and seeing his personality and true thought's and morals really show. cool movie would recomend See more Liam C 05/01/2023 Very predictable and rubbish ending. Wish they had more of a "chase" and also wished the other person at the end was the last one standing rather than the ending that did happen. Would not recommend See more T T 03/21/2023 Really bad. Boring. Terrible acting with unlikeable characters. Very stupid and very predictable storyline. Plot that is full of holes. Dumb and unimaginative ending. See more Read all reviews
