Audience Says

Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan tap the tear ducts with this great-looking historical romance -- it's slow, but it'll make you feel like you've been to the British countryside before World War II.

The elegance in The Dig lies in what it says about the continuity of life rather than the finality of death. Go to Full Review

This bittersweet tale of the unearthing of the Sutton Hoo treasures on the eve of the second world war has gentle charm to spare. Go to Full Review

At its best, The Dig transcends the clichés of typical British costume drama and lays bare the feelings that its protagonists are all trying so hard to hide. Go to Full Review

The superb acting and gorgeous cinematography, however, isn’t enough to stop The Dig from getting a little side-tracked and bogged down in unimportant side plots and characters who don’t add much to the story. Go to Full Review

Sean R. @ZeroXero Oct 20 I like the movie. The storyline was good and subplots were good as well. Ralph Fiennes was good in it as usual See more AJ T Aug 18 I found the story moving and consequential. The acting was superb. Mulligen, Fiennes and James were outstanding. If you have visited the British Museum this movie/story will resonate and leave you searching for more details. It was an inspiring story See more Esra Y Jul 14 British period drama well done. See more Mike H. @mikehoffey Jun 25 Bored me to death. The story had no legs so at the halfway point so a bunch of other people had to show up to carry it to the finish. The lead characters were good but the storyline and a poor representation of a miracle find in the ground - you could hardly make out the outline of a historical boat - was lame. The beautiful countryside moved it up one more star for me. See more Leaburn O Jun 1 Fiennes and Mulligan are both absolutely excellent here but the supporting cast are more oafish with their acting and detract from what could have been a more sincere plot. All was going well until the director fancied he hadn’t enough material for a feature length film and suddenly introduced a whole new cast around the halfway point. So we get strange romance subplots to distract us from the main storyline and they felt shoehorned in. The child actor was kind of bad too unfortunately. There were some good elements here but it doesn’t quite hit the heights. Watched on Netflix. See more Robert B May 29 Excellent drama for so many reasons. Just watch and enjoy.
