Three interwoven stories reveal the traumatic effects of war on the psyches of veterans from different generations in THE DRUMMER, which stars Glover as Mark Walker, a Vietnam war veteran who has become a lawyer and political advocate for soldiers who have suffered mental health issues through their tenure with the Army. Walker works at The Drummer, a small, "anti-war" coffee shop, where the soldiers he meets open up the issue of the mental struggles and physical toll that war takes on veterans.

Robert Daniels RogerEbert.com An acute character study of men and women picking up the pieces of a patriotic ideal that seems to have failed them. Rated: 3/4 Nov 9, 2021 Full Review Bob Strauss San Francisco Chronicle Defined only by their scars, all three lead characters feel generic, as if Werthman built them out of archetypes that ran through his case studies. Rated: 1/4 Nov 8, 2021 Full Review Sebastian Zavala Kahn Ventana Indiscreta The issues it handles, and the reality about Middle Eastern veterans that it paints, remain just as relevant today as they were ten or so years ago. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Dec 20, 2021 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media You'll agree or disagree with what the movie is saying, and there really isn't any in-between viewpoint, but no matter: The Drummer should provoke spirited discussion about war, antiwar, and the treatment of veterans. Rated: 4/5 Dec 8, 2021 Full Review Joel Fisher Battle Royale With Cheese The Drummer is an emotional and powerful story that is all too often repeated, but should never be left untold. NNOMY P Not a movie for movie critics to determine the "entertainment value" of this important film. It is a societal corrective about the controversial wars of the USA and the price that is exacted on our fighting forces physically and psychically. A film that all young people should see and specially those thinking of joining the US Military. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Steve M Good movie about soldiers coming home with PTSD, something not talked about before but maybe explains a lot about WW2, Korea, and Vietnam vets with mental troubles.
