      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Layered performances from Nicole Kidman and director-star Jason Bateman add extra depth to The Family Fang's sharply observed look at domestic dysfunction.

AJ M I caught this movie on Peacock last night. It was poignant, funny, sad and disturbing all at the same time. The ending was unexpected. I love Christopher Walken so the movie was that much more exceptional. Jason Bateman has definitely developed his directors chops and Nicole Kidman is fantastic as usual. Go enjoy this movie if you like watching a dysfunctional family as a slow motion train crash. Cheers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie - moving performances. A well-realised and faithful version of an original and exciting novel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing movie, amazing acting. It's like an archetype of parenting, all the bad parts of it taken up to over 9000. This movie kinda broke me, and then, made me whole again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Awesome film, lousy ending. I just couldn't believe that such brilliancy potential went to waste. It is just as if they had trouble with schedule or something... but definitely 75% great. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly thought provoking film about love, family and what sacrifices some are willing to make in the name of art. Never been a big fan of Nicole Kilmun but found her performance opposite the infinitely likeable Jason Bateman more compelling and warm-blooded here. Their chemistry, and a supporting cast to die for elevate this film to something better-than-the-average. Bateman is constantly doing new and interesting things and proves his mettle as an upcoming director in his own right. Definitely one for those of us who enjoy their films a little less ordinary and who like to find themselves thinking a film long after the credits have run. May 6, 2016 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The film has much to say about what constitutes art, and how the level of one's devotion to their vocation (art or otherwise) affects those around them.
