Dan Morgan (Mark Wahlberg) loves his quiet suburban life as a devoted husband, father of three and successful car salesman. But that's only half the story. Decades earlier, he was an elite government assassin tasked with eliminating the world's deadliest threats. When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Michelle Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old baby into their minivan and takes off on an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas. Determined to protect his family -- while treating them to the vacation of a lifetime -- Dan must put his long-dormant skills into action, without revealing his true identity

A comic thriller that isn’t especially funny or particularly exciting, The Family Plan is an overlong slog that struggles to make use of its game cast. Go to Full Review

The premise for this action comedy is solid... yes. Even intriguing. The execution, however, is slipshod, bland and at times downright distracted. Go to Full Review

A movie that entertains throughout and –never better said– couldn’t be a better family plan. Although it’s not particularly memorable. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

The Family Plan has a right to be this good. Against all odds, this Apple backed action-comedy sticks the landing, not only making this one of the best Mark Wahlberg movies no one has seen, but also reminds audiences why he was Oscar-nominated. Go to Full Review

In The Family Plan, a lot of opportunities are surrendered in favour of dull characters, and an even duller plot. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 5d The Family Plan turns out to be a surprisingly creative and thoroughly enjoyable film, blending action, comedy, and heartfelt family storytelling in a way that feels refreshing. Mark Wahlberg shines once again in a role that allows him to flex both his comedic timing and his action-hero persona, reminding audiences why he continues to be such a charismatic screen presence. Even though the film leans heavily into humor, it still delivers enough excitement to keep viewers fully invested from start to finish. Director Simon Cellan Jones brings a sharp understanding of character chemistry to the forefront. The dynamic between the cast members feels natural and energetic, which makes every conversation and every moment of banter land with the right rhythm. His direction balances sentiment and spectacle, allowing the film to feel lighthearted without losing the emotional core that drives the family-centered story. The screenplay is another strong component, weaving together themes of family, adventure, and unexpected danger with a tone that is accessible and fun. It’s well paced, consistently entertaining, and surprisingly heartfelt. The writing gives Wahlberg and the rest of the ensemble room to explore their characters in ways that feel genuine, while still embracing the amusing chaos that comes with a story rooted in crime and undercover danger. What makes The Family Plan work so well is how effortlessly it moves between genres. One minute, it’s a family comedy with awkward misunderstandings and warm emotional beats, and the next, it’s an action romp with slick sequences and playful spy-movie flair. This blend keeps the film exciting and ensures it never becomes predictable or stale. Instead, it manages to feel like a modern crowd-pleaser that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s honestly surprising how overlooked this film seems to be, especially considering how accessible and entertaining it is. Apple TV+ has become known for releasing high-quality original films, but because so many streaming platforms require individual subscriptions, smaller gems like this one often get buried. The Family Plan deserves far more visibility than it’s likely to receive simply due to the fragmented streaming landscape. Overall, this is a film well worth seeking out. It’s funny, charming, energetic, and surprisingly heartfelt, anchored by strong direction and an engaging cast led by an effortlessly likable Mark Wahlberg. The Family Plan is absolutely worth a watch, and viewers who give it a chance will likely walk away just as pleasantly surprised as you were. See more Nick C. @dmcrra35 5d Lots of action.
