What distinguishes La Peur from other war films is its visual authenticity, the mood and the feeling, the somber HD look is at once gorgeous and frightening at the same time. Go to Full Review

While not as original as "La France," a war film about deserters running away from battle, "The Fear" can safely take a place among the canon of French films about World War I. Go to Full Review

Claudio C @Claudio666 Jan 12 Cannon Fodder (12,196 – 12 Jan 2026) In 1914, in France, Gabriel Dufour, Théophile and Bertrand enlist to fight the Germans in WWI. Without any military training, they go to the front not aware of the situation. Gabriel writes frequently to his girlfriend Marguerite reporting his experience and feelings about the war. Soon Bertrand dies and along the years, Gabriel becomes brutalized and internally destroyed by the war and befriends the anarchist Nègre (Pierre Martial Gaillard), who wants to survive the war anyway. "La peur", a.k.a "The Fear" (2015), is a film that describes the horror of WWI through the letters from Gabriel to Marguerite. The teenager becomes conscious of the reality of a war, where soldiers are cannon fodder while politicians and high-ranking military decide the fate of the youths. In the end, there is a group of survivors physically and mentally destroyed. However, there are better movies about WWI. My vote is seven.
