Marc Z The Flying Swordsman: Out for Revenger (also known as The Hidden Fox) is the newest martial arts, action release from Well Go USA coming out of China. The film is a well made period piece with a common, but well executed martial arts theme. It is one of several Chinese films and television projects based upon a 1950's serial called Fox Volant of Snowy Mountain. The film stars an ensemble cast of treacherous villains, all out for a treasure that disappeared ten (10) years prior to the main time frame of the action. As the story unfolds we discover the backstories of the eight (8) main characters, and how their appearances and motives may be more than what initial appearances would, subsequently, reveal. While the entire cast is very good "The Hidden Fox" is, particularly, good. The Direction and cinematography in the movie are very laudably done. The movie has a sharp visual element and the martial arts fighting, sword, and action choreography are executed in the manner of a much more highly budgeted film. There are some very good fights throughout this one. This film has some really exciting Wax style martial arts fighting, and it is visually quite stunning. The fighting, special effects, and costumes are in the realm of fantasy, which supports the story, so they do lack gritty realism. However, the film is violent, and has more adult themes than many Chinese fantasy exports. While this film was made for the Domestic Chinese market, its martial arts action themes and fighting lend itself to a worldwide audience. The Flying Swordsman is worth checking out, and worth adding to your collection. The film is in Mandarin with English Subtitles. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews
