Jim P This is a movie for a flavour of history, with a dash of romance. Some good suspense scenes too! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review william k Superior TV production of the popular novel is well-made with an appropriately selected cast, but is a bit lacking in the drama department. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member skip this see the 1939 version Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Good TV version of the classic is hampered by the utter miscasting of Bridges in the lead. Never the strongest of leading men he sticks out like a sore thumb in this most English of stories completely surrounded by a cast of British actors who all seem at ease with the material. Jane, always at home in period costumes, is full of youthful promise and delicate beauty as the conflicted Ethne. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This was so bad, it was laughable. Admittedly, the story on which it's based (published I think in 1902) is dated and depicts a rather pro-Empire view, but the depictions of the Arab and African characters in this movie demonstrates a level of stereotyping and ridiculousness that I wouldn't expect in a movie made in 1977. Also, while I am hardly fluent in Arabic, from what I could tell, the scenes in which the characters were, presumably, speaking Arabic had instead white actors speaking gibberish. Really? They couldn't bother to get some actual Arabic-speakers to write & say a few lines of the language? I might be wrong on this, but the "Arabic" didn't sound like Arabic at all to me. Overall, I expected this to be corny and outdated, but it far, far exceeded my expectations. Skip this stinker. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
