Critics Consensus

Despite The Rock's abundant charisma, The Game Plan is just another run-of-the-mill Disney comedy.

Milan S Another case of Critics not knowing what their talking about and looking at a film with less emotion than a stone. Ignore the useless tomatoes for this film. A brilliant feel good movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Dale R Starring Dwayne Johnson as a bachelor pro football quarterback who finds out he has an eight year-old daughter played by Madison Pettis. A good portion of the comedy in this movie is from awkward comedic scenes that I am not a fan of. The acting in this film seemed inconsistent in tone, as if some actors didn’t quite take the role as seriously as it should have been while others were. This would point to the director being the problem. I did enjoy the first half of the third act before the big finale, but the rest of the movie is a snooze-fest that even the charisma of Dwayne Johnson couldn’t save. Skip this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Nathan G Great family and kids movie from Disney. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Lou T Taking on the surprised single dad story, The Game Plan lands Dwayne Johnson in the hot seat, early in his movie career. Playing the self absorbed football player, Joe Kingman, Johnson stars aside the adorable Madison Pettis as his long lost daughter Peyton Kelly. While the premise is fairly basic, the duo add a loving charm to the story and fully invest you into it. Though the acting is cheesy throughout and not every joke lands, that isn't going to turn viewers away from this cute film. The Game Plan doesn't break new ground in terms of its type of film, but it is quite fun and enjoyable for the whole family. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Logan D Acting is alright. The rock is painfully bad at any scenes other than be macho man especially any sort of emotional scenes. Luckily, he had very minimal emotional scenes. The story screams Disney so it's incredibly predictable with decent comedy and a heartfelt ending. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/03/23 Full Review Jace E The Game Plan is exactly what you would expect upon looking at the film poster. With a fairly straightforward concept and a script made for children, there is nothing exceptional about this movie. It was interesting to see the Rock in the infant stage of his film career (he has definitely taken some acting lessons since 2007). I left the film mildly surprised by a small twist and somewhat entertained. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
