Michael C I love both of these. Pamela Adlon is in this one and she's great as always Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/10/23 Full Review Stephen P This is a great movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/17/23 Full Review justin t Some of the scenes were missing sound atmosphere. The special effects were mostly impressive especially for the age. Dialogue was sometimes a little quiet. The aspect ratio was a bit ugly. Slightly slow pacing in the middle. It followed the first movie well. It took the story a bit further and was quite original in the intense kid's horror area. The ending was a bit horridly happy. There aren't many films like this. It didn't have the brilliance of the first movie but I did enjoy it a lot especially as it had that awesome eighties vibe. What a fantastic ending. Demons for kid's and I like it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member For sequel to a bad movie this is great the set design gives off real atmosphere there are some up and down moments but I really Enjoyed this movie you can tell that there is actual effort being made I recommend this. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A near perfect example of a regrettably imperfect attempt to artificially build a franchise. Although sequels don't necessarily have to be a continuation of the original story (sometimes it's preferable to start a new narrative), this second iteration of the Gate attempts to make that continuation but fails miserably to make a solid connection to the spirit of the first movie. It is clear that the intent was to capitalize on the Gate's hell-inspired motifs, but the perfunctory execution leaves the audience grappling for coherence. The only reach into the spirit of the first movie was the reappearance of the tiny minion, which was repurposed into a comedic monster that couldn't be taken seriously. The story was dull and slow and lacked originality. With all of that being said, if you're a true fan of The Gate, you will still feel compelled to watch the sequel, an emotional pull quite similar to the masochistic impulse of doing something even knowing the pain it will cause. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty cool sequel. A fun PG horror movie, even if it's completely ludicrous. I may be biased though, as I've loved it since I was a kid. Paul Lê Bloody Disgusting Anyone who’s experienced their own series of desperate and bitter times relating to family and loss can fully see the appeal of the fabled wish that brings immediate contentment. Rated: 3/5 Jul 23, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy If The Gate is merely a mediocrity boasting a few nifty effects, Gate II is decidedly less. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 31, 2021 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com The creatures, of course, are what keeps any kind of interest in The Gate, with a mix of Harryhausen inspired effects often marred by some rough camera tricks which sometimes drastically cheapens the production value.
