Guy Ritchie does wonders with this riveting, clever tale of a flamboyant drug criminal underground. It's stylish and exceedingly fun with a colorful cast of characters portrayed by a foray of skilled high profile actors. I regret not being able to catch this film in theaters, just a entertaining ride thru and thru

The Gentlemen is a welcome return to Guy Ritchie's "Blighty" (England). Ritchie specializes in complex criminal plots with a motley crew of criminal gangs, some competent, some hilariously inept. He also excels at the rat-a-tat dialogue which is comparable to its master, Quentin Tarantino. The acting is phenomenal ... * Matthew McConaughey is excellent as England's "king of pot;" * Charlie Dunham is the best "fixer" a guy could ask for; * Colin Farrell has a scene stealing role as a tough mentor to "troubled teenagers;" and ... * Hugh Grant is oh-so-beautiful as he continues to play against type as the tabloid journalist huckster. The Gentlemen is pure relentless fun.

For awhile, it's enjoyably old fashioned Guy Richie that is until the plot twists spin out of control. That said Hugh Grant gives a hell of a performance and he makes the whole thing worth it.

Guy Ritchie deliciously returns to the slimy underworld of slimy Brit gangsters, a modern day Shakespere no less, a film filled with likeable lowlifes who mouth quotable damnations dedicated to utter destruction. And all of these scum are in love, secretly or no, with the idea of the imagined highlife of royalty, and so all want it, even a little part. The cast indulge these lowlifes dreaming of the highlife with a kind of flummoxed humanity, one and all, to wonderful enjoyment such as only Damon Runyon could do for American audiences. A treat.
