Michael Wilmington Chicago Tribune Not a good movie, but sort of likable. Audience Member Back when comedians still wanted sitcoms, this mid-2000s road-trip comedy definitely has its moments. It's low-budget and leans heavy into the lowest denominator of Wisconsinite stereotypes, but also has interesting commentary on stand-up: being "authentic," prop acts, etc. The "Godfather" (Tony Goldwyn), the beloved local who reminds everyone he meets that he was once the best high school football players in Northeast Wisconsin, is quite the character — his line, "Go play my song. I want her to see me dance." Is pretty great, even if it's stupid that his song is "The Macarena". At first, the Mafia side-story felt unnecessary, however, the way it connected to the larger plot added to the "everybody knows everybody in a small town" concept. The penultimate scene of Joe (Pete Schwaba) getting bumped is jarring (+$1), but works. The actual ending is fine, I guess. If you like Thomas Lennon (Lt. Dangle from RENO 911), there's lots of him in it; if you like Bill Ponderosa from Always Sunny, Lance Barber is the "funny guy" to Joe's "straight man". It's only 90 mins and you'll def laught-out-loud at least a couple of times — at what exactly depends on your sense of humor. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member this is a strange little film following a hack comedian as he travels the circuit & falls into trouble, and love. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This wasn't as bad as I thought this was going to be. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This wasn't as bad as I thought this was going to be. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This wasn't as bad as I thought this was going to be. Decent casting with especially with Thomas Lennon from Reno 911. There were a couple times whent he jokes fell flat, but when the jokes were on, they were good. Sometimes the story was alittle choppy and it did seem like a little too much to tie up the payoff. The payoff of the movie was too quick and it took away from the movie. Decent little movie though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A goofy, funny Indie comedy where a comic veteran seeks to finally make the big stage of the Tonight Show after several unsuccessful attempts by traveling to a tiny Wisconsin town just outside Green Bay 2,000 miles from Los Angeles. The local characters are portrayed quite true to life, representing northern Wisconsin (and of course da U.P., eh? ya....) reasonably well. Funny all around comedy if you like the quirky comedies (deer jokes, drunken Packer fans, etc, etc...) Certainly not a perfect movie by any means but was fun to watch nevertheless.
