S R A painfully sad and tragic movie about poverty in India. I tried to rate this ages ago, but sadly the site for this one was not working. Saw on youtube. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Shocking. The way each soul is divided into layers explicitly detailed is astonishing. While witnessing these rough world corners, one naturally arrives to the conclusion that black-and-white photography was often used by movie-makers for their own advantage in order to "obscure" some of the most disturbing external manifestations of our intrinsic malevolence. Truly one of the best Indian films. 99/100 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Uma história trágica que só à (C) prejudica pelos seus diálogos super expositivos. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Not a summary available here, huh (also note the release year was 1965, not 2011)? A brother and his young sister in or near Calcutta, following the 1947 Partition of India, essentially adopt a boy after his mother was taken away. It's not difficult to figure out where things will progress in that regard story-wise, but there are some dark turns. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Le film d'abord de tres haute qualite plonge dans la commiseration et l'inertie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a magical film, knowing how to portray human emotions without overplaying them, knowing how to meld the personal and the political until it becomes real. The dialogue can at times be direct to the point of abrupt in terms of getting information across, but it's so rare and the rest of the film so heartfelt that this small problem melts away.
