November 1975, Paris. The appeal hearing of Jewish far-left activist Pierre Goldman is set to begin. Sentenced to life imprisonment for four armed robberies, one of which resulted in the death of two women, Goldman pleads not guilty to the murder charges. The massively-covered court proceedings transform Goldman into a romantic figure and a hero of the intellectual left, even as the relationship with his young attorney Georges Kiejman frays. Ever the agitator for his ideals, the elusive and mercurial Goldman throws his own trial into chaos, risking a death sentence. The Goldman Case paints a psycho-pathological portrait of a militant revolutionary, but also of a society torn apart by patterns of racism and injustice that are still virulent today.

Capturing a historical moment in the claustrophobic confines of a courtroom, The Goldman Case is a riveting drama with a superb Arieh Worthalter at its center.

Odie Henderson Boston Globe “The Goldman Case” may turn off some viewers looking for flashier fare. My love of movies about process influenced my favorable response, but anyone who favors courtroom dramas will find much to enjoy. Rated: 3/4 Oct 25, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “The Goldman Case” is a textbook example of courtroom drama, nothing more, nothing less. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 24, 2024 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Worthalter rightfully won this year’s best actor award at the Césars for playing Goldman as an irascible iconoclast with a hair-trigger temper who frequently transforms his own murder trial into a stage for bloviating rants — and yet remains sympathetic. Rated: 4/5 Sep 25, 2024 Full Review Daniel M. Kimmel North Shore Movies THE GOLDMAN CASE is a riveting courtroom drama from France, detailing a trial that caught national attention in a similar manner to the way that the O.J. Simpson trial did here. Rated: 4/5 Oct 22, 2024 Full Review Peter Keough Arts Fuse At times the goings on resemble an episode of the Jerry Springer Show... It is a tense confrontation between extremes that seems ready to explode at any moment. Oct 18, 2024 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills The lack of depicted backstory may render Goldman’s story (let alone his guilt or innocence) somewhat murky to viewers lacking any prior acquaintance. Still, it’s all engrossing, because he is such a fiery, filter-free personality... Oct 16, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Mark S As a US lawyer, i was fascinated by this film. I can’t imagine that Goldman's in Court behavior would be tolerated by a US Judge. I did not mind the sub-titles. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Petros T Even though the beginning is a little slow and maybe there isn't anything that extraordinary about how the movie is shot, "Le procès Goldman" is an increasingly captivating affair boasting good acting, interesting dialogues and potent sociopolitical themes. Overall, Cédric Kahn pulls off the whole courtroom drama thing very well: despite being talky, his film is immersive and not overbearing - and even if the finale isn't as moving as it could perhaps be, it's still a thought-provoking ride. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Jane A Exceptional film. I am not a native French speaker but the amazing dialogue and 'not acting' acting were captivating, from start to finish. I don't think I've seen a better courtroom-based film, or one that conveyed wider issues at that time (still relevant) with such easy skill. I will definitely see this again.
