Critics Consensus

Whilst never taking itself too seriously, this riotous and rollicking Sergio Leone-inspired Korean Western is serious fun.

Hank Sartin Time Out Rated: 3/5 Nov 18, 2011 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star Imagine the sparseness of classic oaters matched with the energy of martial arts movies and you've got what Kim Jee-won has wrought. Rated: 3/4 Aug 6, 2010 Full Review Sam Adams Philadelphia City Paper You don't feel the mad passion of Sergio Leone behind it, but a steadily spreading grin that never stops growing Rated: B+ May 11, 2010 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal The sort of film where people barrel through doors only to be blasted back through them. It also boasts bone-deep brutality in a way that belies its buoyancy but never betrays it — invoking desperation inherent to Manchurian life under multiple thumbs. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Technically a marvel, entertainingly daft, The Good, the Bad, the Weird is funny, exciting, and save for the bloody knife fights, thoroughly enjoyable for general audiences. Darren D Kim Jee-woon "The Good, The Bad, The Weird" is another strong title from the director, with his own take on the Western genre with it's clear respect to films like "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" Kim Jee-woon delivers highly enjoyable action adventure of criminals, gangs & bounty hunters all battling it out for personal goals & treasure. With plenty of humour & big action set pieces to keep you entertained throughout. Jee-woon teams up again with the always impressive Lee Byung-hun, with the added talent of Song Kang-ho & Jung Woo-sung. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/23/24 Full Review Victor A Epic, superbly made movie, great soundtrack to add Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review JJJJJJ J Generally funny, and mildly entertaining. I think this film is suppose to have some sort of allegorical point to it but not being versed in Asian history that completely flew over my head. The film in general though was okay. The story did enough to keep me interest though nothing felt particularly deep, or really gripping. Average film that is worth the watch if you are looking for a lighthearted action comedy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review BadUncleIke This is one of those movies that gets better with a second or third watch. Some pretty funny stuff, not a word of English but very easy to follow. A spaghetti spoof in Korean. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Audience Member The best Korean movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was plain bad, bad acting, effects, action sequence and story.
