Legendary composer Victor Herbert (Walter Connolly) finds himself in the middle of a conflict between tenor John Ramsey (Allan Jones) and Ramsey's wife, singer Louise Hall (Mary Martin). As the couple's marriage deteriorates, it's revealed that Louise ventured to New York from a small town, met John and married him. John promotes his wife's career until her fame far surpasses his own. The conflicts that erupt between the couple reflect the content of many of Herbert's operas.

Audience Member Many of Victor Herbert's lovely songs are represented, but they're tied to a cliched, mleodramatic plotline involving Allan Jones and Mary Martin as squabbling stars; Susanna Foster plays their daughter. Even Walter Connolly is rather weak in the title role. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
