Critics Consensus

Sleek, well-acted, and intelligently crafted, The Guilty is a high-concept thriller that wrings maximum impact out of a handful of basic - and effective - ingredients.

Ben Sachs Chicago Reader This Danish potboiler is organized around a few nimbly executed plot twists, and like many similarly designed thrillers, it leaves the audience with little to think about once all the surprises have been revealed. Apr 13, 2020 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald The Guilty is a clever Danish thriller that takes full advantage of the strengths and weaknesses of modern communications. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 25, 2019 Full Review David Stratton The Australian Despite its self-imposed limitations, the skilfully made The Guilty excels as a compelling and tense evening in the cinema. Rated: 4/5 Feb 22, 2019 Full Review Ian Kane Epoch Times “The Guilty” is a refreshing film that engages the imagination instead of dumbing things down and taking the safe route. Rated: 4/5 Aug 28, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand It’s an impressive debut from Swedish filmmaker Gustav Möller, who uses his single location superbly. He isolates Asger within the frame as the tensions build and uses pauses and telephone silence to ratchet up the anxiety. Feb 4, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The Danish film “The Guilty” is the latest glowing example of how great writing and a good actor’s steely intensity is more than enough for a genuinely gripping thriller. Niki M A finely-crafted, atmospheric, well-acted, surely-paced thriller with a plot twist that is satisfyingly shocking. Don't waste your time with the American remake, this is much better. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Georgan G Well done gritty crime drama which takes place mostly over the phone. The acting & voice acting are intense & gut wrenching. Saw this many years ago, and enjoyed seeing it again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/07/24 Full Review Derek M One of the best films I've seen in the last 20 years!!! Just watch it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Alec B At times its a little predictable but the movie is still compelling thanks to a terrific central performance. So glad one of these kinds of movies realizes that the second you leave the confined setting, the story is over. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Matt B This movie left me speechless. It is very intense and lots of twists and turns that have you literally on the edge of your seat the whole time. The middle is a little slow but the ending more then makes up for it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review Aaron M Lots of restraint shown in the acting, cinematography, sound…no music at all. Well made. Would make a good play. Not exactly a movie you "enjoy" though Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
