      The Hitman's Bodyguard

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Hitman's Bodyguard coasts on Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds' banter -- but doesn't get enough mileage to power past an overabundance of action-comedy clichés.

Kyle The action scenes were great and the comedy was unstoppable! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/24/21 Full Review Mitch C Ignore the negative reviews. This is a fun, fun, fun ride from beginning to end. It's major strength is the humorous back and forth between Renolds and Jackson. And Gary Oldman brings back his Airforce One" Russian bad guy" act to perfection. Incredible car chases just keep on comin' and yes, the body count may exceed any Stallone/Arnold flick, but so what? This is pure comic book "suspend your disbelief" stuff. Enjoy!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Larry L I find it hard to believe that the critics gave this such a bad review. This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen thanks to Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson. It's a must see I've watched it more than once. I just love it. I will be buying this dvd. It's a keeper. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Augustine J The Hitman's Bodyguard is a good action comedy. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson have a great rapport. The action is very thrilling although it's very generic. The best scenes are the ones where Reynolds and Jackson are just slinging insults at each other. Other than that the movie is pretty vanilla. Gary Oldman plays the most bland villain ever. All of the other side characters, with the exception of Salma Hayek character, are so uninteresting. However the chemistry between the two leads still manage to keep the film afloat. For that chemistry the movie is well worth the watch. Go to Freevee and watch this fun movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Cash S The Hitman's Bodyguard is really fun. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson are great in this, and they work so good off of each other. Salma Hayek also adds some hilarious moments in here. This movie has some absolutely hilarious moments throughout. Some of the action sequences in here are really great. The film does a good at developing the relationship between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson's characters, and you really like seeing them annoy each other. I will say that the story is very simplistic, maybe to simplistic for it's own good, to the point where I actually forgot what why Samuel L. Jackson was being chased at one point. I also feel like some of the humor didn't land as well as it could've. This doesn't have a particularly great or unique story, but it is wildly entertaining, and has some solid action and laughs. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Jimmy T Still one of my favorites. The action and dialog just makes it so entertaining. Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com It's a crassly violent comic book, an insane bit of violence and bloodshed overflowing in crude one-liners, car chases, explosions and random jolts of gunfire. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 22, 2017 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au The Hitman's Bodyguard wasted its talented stars and served up a slop that is best watched on a long-haul flight, sandwiched between some non-Pixar animation and a weepy romance with a dying female lead. Rated: 2/5 Aug 31, 2017 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) Outwardly it's all as mindless as can be. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 30, 2017 Full Review Daniel Howat Next Best Picture Weak characters, a thin plot, and a few funny moments lead to a bland but inoffensive film. As far as action comedies go, we've seen far better, and we've seen far worse. "The Hitman's Bodyguard" finds itself somewhere in the unremarkable middle. Rated: 4/10 May 19, 2022 Full Review Drew Dietsch FANDOM Thanks to a sturdy control of tone and some deliciously wicked performances, it works like gangbusters despite its bare-bones plot and a weak villain. Rated: 4/5 Dec 29, 2021 Full Review Larry Bartleet NME (New Musical Express) A fun but silly buddy movie that squeezes in some philosophy and romance too...
