Weak characters, a thin plot, and a few funny moments lead to a bland but inoffensive film. As far as action comedies go, we've seen far better, and we've seen far worse. "The Hitman's Bodyguard" finds itself somewhere in the unremarkable middle.

Ever since the Deadpool movies, I’ve been wary of checking anything Ryan Reynolds does that isn’t a big-time action movie. So, this is one of those movies that qualify, especially with a great cast like Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek, Gary Oldman, and so much more. Michael Bryce is a down-on-his-luck professional bodyguard who then gets the opportunity of a lifetime to protect a witness to be sent to the Hague to provide testimony against a brutal dictator. But the witness, Darius Kincaid, is an incarcerated assassin who has made Bryce’s life a living hell with many near misses. As both men are hunted by the dictator’s assassins, the bigger challenge is preventing the two men from killing each other. This was great. I couldn’t turn away from the great action and comedy. It had a splendid cast, a well-written story, and great action.

It never ends…just back and forth lazy/barely comical dialogue for two hours (2.5?….). 2 stars go to the crew who made the action scenes. SLJ and RR barely keep you hangin’ in there for the glorious last 15 minutes of ridiculous madness that sends this thing to the credits. Thank you Gary Oldman for 2 minutes of actual acting.

Haha. All of the gripes in the reviews are exactly why I loved this movie. It is not high art, it is pure entertainment. Sometimes you have to strip off your snooty pants and enjoy the wonders of pure camp. Those car chases are the bomb. Haven't had this much fun since the Transporter series.
