Weak characters, a thin plot, and a few funny moments lead to a bland but inoffensive film. As far as action comedies go, we've seen far better, and we've seen far worse. "The Hitman's Bodyguard" finds itself somewhere in the unremarkable middle.

The Hitman's Bodyguard is exactly the movie you think it is. Samuel Jackson (hitman) and Ryan Reynolds (bodyguard) are two ass-kickin' mo-fos who don't get along. They argue through the whole film while performing death-defying stunts and killing bad guys. It's like MIDNIGHT RUN, except Charles Grodin is a formidable warrior. There's little point in telling you that both men are pining after their women, and accidental counseling ensues in-between I-Hate-You moments. This is a buddy picture. You'll hear things like, "C'mon! Time's wastin'. Tik-tok, motherfucker!" from you-know-who, and you'll get a lot of dry, gentle humor from the other you-know-who. This is a decent enough movie to justify that tub of popcorn you just popped, but I'd hardly recommend it (the movie, not popcorn).
