Rachel Saslow Washington Post If director Eran Riklis's intention is to show the blossoming humanity, so to speak, of a human resources manager, the transformation is much too subtle to work. Rated: 1/4 Apr 29, 2011 Full Review Joe Williams St. Louis Post-Dispatch Even with incidents involving drunken locals, an underground bunker and a decommissioned tank, the film doesn't build the comic momentum of good intentions hurtling downhill in a strange land. Rated: 2/4 Apr 22, 2011 Full Review John Hartl Seattle Times Yehoshua and Riklis are sometimes better at setting things up than following through, but the result suggests a novelistic density. Rated: 3/4 Mar 24, 2011 Full Review Kelly Jane Torrance Washington Examiner [It's a] moving, quiet film. Rated: 3/5 Jan 8, 2019 Full Review CJ Johnson Film Mafia The long, long journey that makes up the bulk of the film is bizarrely undramatic. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 13, 2011 Full Review Simon Weaving Screenwize A sometimes serious, sometimes quirky road movie sees an HR Manager travel from Jerusalem to Romania with a dead body, a collection of strange characters, and a slowly developing conscience about the fate of the dead. Audience Member Just watched it. Like it alot. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The Human Resources Manager of Israel's largest industrial bakery has to travel to Romania when an employee of theirs is killed in a terrorist attack, creating a public relations nightmare when the company does not notice her absence for a week. He brings her body to her home town to bring it to her family and make amends. Facing a series of setbacks, he gradually snaps out of his own depression. A lightly comic human drama that's largely fine without ever elevating itself to anything special. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Road movie sobre el sentido de nacionalidad, con personajes interesantes, humor, un buen guión y una inspirada dirección de fotografía. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member An Israeli drama with satirical undertones, THE HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER is an allegorical exploration of one uncompromising man's attempt at embracing humanity through a series of events that sends him off to an unnamed Eastern Bloc country, but really Romania, to appease the family of a foreign worker killed by a suicide bomber. THRM observantly combines comedy and pathos to achieve its somewhat successful final results. Director Riklis who specializes in probing studies of contrasting cultures at odds mostly built around borders (LEMON TREE & THE SYRIAN BRIDE) here raises the bar by taking his central character on a reluctantly self-fulfilling mission to a foreign land. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Road movie, dramedy espectacular. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
