      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Liam Neeson remains a top-tier action hero; unfortunately, like a number of his recent genre outings, The Ice Road is a downhill trundle paved with predictability.

Even with Liam Neeson at the wheel, the predictable Ice Road doesn't lead anywhere worth going.

Dom F Well fellers and fellets it comes with a heavy heart that I announce I have unfortunately just watched the movie "the ice road" by Liam neelsun or whatever his last name is and I have now waisted one hour and forty eight minutes of my life that I can never get back it honestly was one of the worst experiences of my life I honestly would rather weld without my hood for one hour and forty eight minutes with 5/32 jet rod at 200 amps and deal with the flash burn afterwards then have to watch this movie again I would say -500,000,000 out of 5 stars Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Mark M I love Liam Neeson but this is one of thecworst films I have ever seen. Thr supporting cast is horrible the writing is horrible. The plot is predictable save your time do not watch this one 1/5 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Lanfranco C The ice was thin, but the courage was great in an unconventional adventure. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Emilliano Jr S One of Neeson's worst film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Caillan B Love Liam but one thing I could not get over was the editing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review S. S Decent film for what it is. Liam Neeson and Lawrence Fishburn are their usual one-dimensional selves. However, it isn't clear why the Tantoo character was written as a bigoted indigenous Archie Bunker-style character. The rest of the cast did a nice job, though the writing admittedly could have been better. OK to watch once, though not recommended. David Fear Rolling Stone The ratio of exposition-heavy dialogue to things-a-real-person-would-say lines is roughly 20 to 1. Any bit of visual wit that manages to slip through feels accidental. Rated: 1/5 Aug 2, 2021 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News The setup has potential, with trapped miners needing saving but icy roads making rescue efforts difficult. But it hits the skids and ends up formulaic and cliched. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 1, 2021 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday Piles cliches atop cliches with an end result of mush - not content to be the story of a dramatic rescue, it's also a conspiracy movie and a revenge thriller. Rated: 1/4 Jul 1, 2021 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community The Ice Road all the right variables for an interesting film, layered with tension and suspense which is only aided by the casting...Ultimately though, the film’s dialogue is very poor, the performances aren’t great...It’s safe to skip this one. Rated: 5/10 Jan 16, 2023 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) Liam Neeson is, as ever, a stoic and credible leading man. Like his character in this and every other recent film, he is dependable and the kind of bloke you're happy to spend some time with. Rated: 3/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “The Ice Road” taps into much of what makes Neeson such a fun and engaging action star while also following that overused formula that makes many of his movies feel like more of the same.
