We open with Laurel Holloman as "Randy" making out with an older married woman in a gas station bathroom. This, by the way, is the most interesting thing that will happen in this entire movie. Let that settle in Go to Full Review

The clunking title of The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love tells you all you need to know about the plot, though there is a genuine sweetness to this perky tale of high school romance. Go to Full Review

A comedy with a lot on its mind, Maggenti explores homophobia, racism, classicism, and more, along with its deliriously sweet romance sequences. Go to Full Review

It's an LGBTQ+ movie that's aged well, even if some stereotypes are present, and remains an important and enjoyable coming-of-age tale that tells a specific story while reminding us of the universality of young love. Go to Full Review

Joey H. @Joeyhubb1989 Dec 26 Released on June 16th, 1995; written and directed by Maria Maggenti, produced by Dolly Hall; and released by New Line Cinema subsidiary company Fine Line Features; this independent LGBTQ film tells the beautiful story of finding unexpected love, at the unexpected time, with the most unexpected person. Taking place in a small town, this is the story of two very different teenage girls from completely different sides of the tracks and different walks of life, who become inexplicably drawn to one another and fall in love. On the one side of the tracks is the 17 year old tomboyish Randal “Randy” Dean, played by Laurel Holloman. She’s in her final year of high school with aspirations of being a musician but also has very little chance to graduate because of her constantly poor grades; especially in Math, and an uncaring attitude. She has only one single friend at school, a fellow LGBT member named Frank; likes to smoke cigarettes and occasionally use recreational drugs; lives in a small house with her aunt Rebecca along with Rebecca’s current girlfriend Vicky and ex-girlfriend Lena who needs a temporary place to stay until she gets on her feet. Randy has lived with them ever since her mother abandoned her to devote her life to other causes like Operation Rescue. Randy also works at a local gas station and is having an illicit affair with a married woman named Wendy, whose husband Ali also works at the same gas station. Then on the other side of the tracks is Evelyn “Evie” Roy Jr, played by Nicole Ari Parker. She’s also in her final year of high school; is about to turn 18; is incredibly beautiful; is part of the popular crowd, although her three closest friends are very snobbish and stuck up; she drives a pristine white Range Rover; has a boyfriend named Hayjay whom she is not in love with; has a very sheltered and inhibited life; and lives in a mansion with her well off, cultured and divorced mother Evelyn, who has a complicated relationship with her remarried ex-husband. One day their paths cross by chance when Evie stops in at the gas station to have her car checked out and Randy speaks to her for the first time. This one innocent interaction sets in motion a chain of events that will change their lives forever. Beginning with them leaving notes for each other at school; They soon start finding themselves spending time together and hanging out a lot while forming a strong bond and deep emotional connection with each other. As time goes on, the two young ladies become inseparable and eventually fall in love with each other despite knowing and having to face the protests, hardships and objections of the people around them. Does everything work out for the two young lovers; or does fate end up pulling them apart by happenstance? Well that is just something you will have to find out for yourself. Film critic Roger Ebert gave this film three out of four stars, calling it a warm-hearted, funny and involving film and that the two leads are well cast. I give this film a solid 20 rating with five stars and consider it a must watch guilty pleasure film. I’d strongly recommend it to anyone and everyone. See more 07/27/2024 There are not many lesbian movies out there that aren’t just about sex and/or depressing drama in which they either both die, or break up in the end. This is one of those rare, beautiful gems in which it’s just a sweet, adorable, romantic love story between two girls. The chemistry between the two girls is astounding, throughout the whole movie they were so adorable, nervous, and giggly with each other. It’s a very sweet, and easy to watch film, in which it also has an amazing, and empowering ending. I am a lesbian myself, and I absolutely adore this movie, watch it! ❤️ See more Lux et V 06/27/2024 Just bad acting and script. See more Frans G 05/20/2024 What a horror to sit through this film.
