Nell Minow Movie Mom The movie shifts in subject and tone to focus on marital issues between Angelina and Vincenzo and then shifts abruptly into sentimental drama. Somehow by that point we still feel connected to the family and the conclusion is genuinely touching. Rated: B- Apr 13, 2025 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) What ends up being the most interesting part of the film is the casting of Estes. This is not a typical role for the actor and he brings some life to the film. It just isn’t enough. Rated: C Apr 17, 2025 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Breslin, as so often, is the standout. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 11, 2025 Full Review Patrick McDonald HollywoodChicago.com Typical Italian tropes (food, loudness) are mitigated by deft comic performances, especially from veteran Lanie Kazan and the grown-up Abigail Breslin. The heart of the story is a reminder that there is an expiration date on family and what they give us. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 9, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Byron Lloyd v Powerful opening and closing scenes to "The Italians," a romantic comedy that starts with a dramatic edge... as would-be-mother-in-law Angelina (played by Michelle Danner) initiates her potential daughter-in-law, Lily (played by Abigail Breslin) by roasting and raking Lily over the coals, metaphorically speaking. I was taken by the compelling (and wide-ranging) emotional journey of each of these characters throughout the arch of the story. A romantic comedy with emotional zest (as well as laughs). I enjoyed caring about this family while laughing and chuckling throughout the film. The Italians succeeds in taking viewers, at least this viewer (and his mother), inside what feels like a real family, one with intense (even abrasive) personalities, yet simultaneously reveal deep love for one another. Lily is attacked (twice) by rose bushes, Angelina's rose bushes. I did a little research, and I found out that symbolically, in Italian culture, rose bushes represent the painful and challenging aspects of life, particularly in the context of love and passion. Rob Estes, who portrays Angelina's Husband, Vincenzo, provides the comedic relief, and deftly so; even though his character is guilty of transgressions, he shows remorse and is rather loveable! Feels like family. Lainie Kazan, portrays Lucia, the family matriarch. Kazan delivers a potent and nuanced performance; Kazan and Danner bring the film's most powerful scene to a palpable head (in a clash of the matriarchs). Strong ensemble acting throughout this immersive viewing experience. Memorable supporting roles include Matthew Daddario as Nico (Angelina's Son), while Perrey Reeves is spot on as Min, the Neighbor Lady (flawless!). Without ruining the film's ending, I will simply say the well-crafted conclusion of this romantic comedy had my 89-year-old mother & myself crying. A most welcome night with "The Italians." Highly recommended if you want to put your mind and heart into a realm of laughter (with a possible tear or two). -Byron Lloyd von Priebe Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Marla M The Italians is such a great movie. Being Italian, it brought back all my memories to those Sunday marathon dinners at my Nonna's house. The laughs, the fights, the food, I could even smell the sauce. This film has laughter and emotion... the ending tugs on your heartstrings. This is a film your whole family will love. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/25 Full Review Madonna C Amateur acting, annoyed I paid for this. Very little funny moments. Just drags on. Blah movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/21/25 Full Review Jane P I've watched this movie a few times and every time I like it more. It makes me smile, it makes me think and not think about my own problems. All we really want is an escape and this film does just that. Acting, check, directing, check and writing, check. Highly recommended.
