Dennis Harvey Variety An equally entertaining and infuriating overview of a very American self-made phenomenon. Dec 9, 2014 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic You begin to wonder where reality ends and Arpaio's own world begins. (There doesn't seem to be a lot of overlap.) Rated: 4/5 Oct 2, 2014 Full Review C.J. Prince Way Too Indie The Joe Show does do a decent job tearing apart Joe Arpaio's record, but it's not the dressing down he deserves. Jun 21, 2019 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy What starts out as an homage to the Maricopa County Sheriff quickly turns into an unabashed look into the Sheriff's reign as a political figure that is sure to leave audiences speechless in this documentary. Audience Member I'm not a big fan of documentaries, because the style of most of them feels like one long news story, which fails to get me engaged. However one of my favorite podcasters was a producer on this film, so I decided to watch The Joe Show when it aired on cable. It's an out-of-this-world story about a controversial sheriff who has created a media persona for himself that keeps him in the minds of the voters and so he keeps getting elected. It's out of this world what lengths he goes to in order to make a name for himself, bending and stretching the laws perhaps to the breaking point. It actually is the ideal subject for a documentary because some of the things he does are so radical that you'd think it must be scripted. It was a very well-structured story, and while the film-makers did show the dark side of Joe's career, they never seemed to be taking a side on the issues. I certainly wasn't bored while watching The Joe Show, but since it's a documentary I also wasn't particularly excited by it either. If you like to see just how far someone can go with an agenda and a position of power this movie is an interesting one to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a must-see for friends, fans and foes of the world's most famous sheriff. The producers had extraordinary access to Arpaio and his top political staff over an eight year period. The film chronicles Arpaio's master manipulation of the media that led to his meteoric rise in popularity followed by near loss at the ballot for a sixth term. Ultimately, it's a story about the media that created a force they couldn't destroy though they tried and a man who wanted nothing more than fame and got exactly that.
