A remake is rarely better than the original, the "almost" part is because of this movie. The actors are very good, and the CGI is better. The only half-scary scene is when (spoiler) Sher Kahn kills Akela, but even that isn't scary. It is a must-see for Disney lovers.

It's definitely an improvement over the original in terms of story, choosing to adapt the Rudyard Kipling original more (just a bit) faithfully. The direction is competent but ultimately doesn't work for me due to its conflicted tones and bizarre character moments. What I feel this film lacks is a sense of confidence in what it wants to be.

This version of The Jungle Book lands on its feet with a solid story and seamless visuals. The voice cast and shining young Sethi breath magic into the familiar story. The directing of this movie is stellar. Shere Khan's portrayal was impressively chilling and added a powerful (but controlled) dark element to the film. Overall, this film was very enjoyable and, most importantly, kept its imaginative heart.
