Robin H Why was it called The Key? What key? It was standard 1930's stuff, over-the-top melodramatics. Silent films had only ended less that a decade before but its acting style is evident in this film. William Powell is always a treat. I almost gave the movie 4 stars just for having him in the cast, but with four stars, how could I rate far far superior movies to come. So three, and that's probably still because of Powell. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/21/23 Full Review Audience Member William Powell gives a fine, measured performance in Michael Curtiz' film about the Irish Rebellion. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent, Romantic adventure, with the three Stars at the top of their game. William Powell is the nominal star, but Colin Clive grabs the acting honours, He Plays Andrew Kerr, a British Officer whose job it is, to keep the peace, until it can be gained legally. He does an excellent job of playing a man torn between sworn duty, a terrified wife, and finding out that his best friend was his wife's old flame.... The acting is superb all 'round, and art direction and backgrounds are so fine that you almost believe that YOU'RE in the heart Dublin. This one's a keeper. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Michael Curtiz directed this tale of British officer William Powell stationed in Ireland during the 1920s rebellion. Things get complicated when Powell runs into old flame Edna Best, who's on the opposing side of the conflict. Colin Clive is the other man. The film isn't a classic, but there's a great cast and Curtiz provides some visually striking moments. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
