Peanut vendor and washed-up baseball player "Coop" Cooper (Dan Dailey) teaches his 9-year-old son, Christy (Billy Chapin), all the game's finer points. When Christy becomes the new bat boy, his suggestions to the players lift the struggling team out of the basement.
