Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post Set up like a suspense thriller, with on-screen titles that count down the minutes - not days or weeks - "The King's Choice" has the feel of a film that probably played better in its native country. Rated: 2/4 Oct 5, 2017 Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times "The King's Choice" is a dramatic tale about a pivotal World War II moment, a story infused with tension and psychological conflict that's all the more engrossing for being fresh to us. Oct 5, 2017 Full Review Matthew Lickona San Diego Reader Director Erik Poppe's handling of complicated material - diplomacy amid invasion, familial struggles amid national strife, political machinery clanking along amid explosions - is clear and sure. Rated: 2/5 Sep 28, 2017 Full Review Peg Aloi Arts Fuse ... the film turns out to be a beautifully photographed and thoughtful nail-biter, suspenseful in a way that illuminates what must have been Norway's most terrifying moments. Oct 24, 2017 Full Review Al Alexander The Patriot Ledger It's handsomely mounted, extremely well-acted and tells a little-known story of bravery on the part of one man daringly taking on the might of the Third Reich. Rated: B Oct 22, 2017 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com Characters are dimensional and the stakes are high, giving "The King's Choice" plenty to examine as it visits an obscure corner of WWII history. Kee P This film showed the anguish of a King determined to let the people decide as a democratic country. The rawness of emotions were well acted as the Nazis invaded. I've never been disappointed by a Norwegian film and this one is no exception. Their resilience is on display in their movie making abilities. Well done! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review Johannes S Amazing movie about Norway's fate in WW2. The fighting scenes are beautifully shot and the dialogue throughout the movie is outstanding. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Joel B This is a great retelling of what Norway dealt with in the Second World War! Watching it in Norwegian makes it better! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/07/23 Full Review Liam D A Powerful retelling of one of the most bravest moments in WW2 with outstanding performances Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/10/22 Full Review Joel M Slow burn drama depicting the role of King Haakon VII during the early stages of the German invasion of Norway in World War II. Impressively acted and revealing story of events usually described from the German point of view. Gripping and poignant. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/05/22 Full Review Audience Member Great foreign movie on the German takeover of Norway. Germany wanted their ore and the NORSK facilities heavy water enrichment for nuclear production. (another movie on US & UK & Norwegians blowing up that plant - thank heavens). Reading the subtitles really makes you intimate with the production. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
