Chris Vognar Rolling Stone A zesty doc that walks right up to the edge of dark comedy, peers over the cliff, and takes a cheeky plunge into something weird and wonderful. Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Rene Sanchez Cine Sin Fronteras An absorbing documentary that follows the capture of Mexico's most famous serial killer while exposing the flaws of the country's legal and judicial systems. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 3/4 Aug 13, 2023 Full Review John Serba Decider Cuevas lets the chips fall where they may, which is laudable in some ways, but it too frequently reeks of crass exploitation. Aug 1, 2023 Full Review Nicole Ackman Ready Steady Cut This documentary tells an interesting story but doesn’t offer anything particularly meaningful to the genre. Rated: 2/5 Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Leonardo Garcia Tsao La Jornada Within a genre that tends to thrive in sensationalism, The Lady of Silence is a rigorous documentary that is especially respectful of the victims and their relatives. Mary F This is an excellent movie that shows how policing can work in a very different culture--Mexico. In the course of solving this case, 4 different people were accused and blithely tossed into jail, and that the serial killings kept coming after each "successful" arrest did not help the people falsely arrested as murders in the least. Amazing what they get away with in Mexico. No lawsuits there. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
