Paul Lê Nightmare on Film Street Although The Last Laugh is billed as a “giallo-inspired slasher,” it's assuredly less of a detective or whodunit movie and more of a psychological horror punctuated with something conventional; maybe even unnecessary. Audience Member So unmemorable that I thought I'd try it on Showtime and when I clicked on it it said Replay! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member No one speaks anything like actual people. The dialog is incredibly stilted, the characters have no personality, although the cast does try. I blame the script. The shots of mysterious tension are three times as long as they should be. There's a dark secret and a dark past but it's really hard to care. It's clear the writers have no theater experience; the sound person would be fired yesterday. One bright spot: the actor who has to use the word "corporeal" looked up the pronunciation and said it correctly. In all, this is a mess. It's as if they found a great old theater to use as a collection of sets and made it up as the went along. They didn't seem to care if the murders were real or imaginary. Random flashbacks with no context are supposed to raise tension...but they don't. In the end, it doesn't even try to male sense. Was it karma? Was it revenge? Was there a reason it happened now? Nope. No resolutions. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
