What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Last Man on the Moon takes a justifiably reverent look at a largely unexplored chapter in the history of American space exploration -- and a side of astronaut's lives that's rarely considered.

David Jenkins Little White Lies A biographical tale that captures more than just the story. Rated: 3/5 Apr 10, 2016 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) The Last Man on the Moon is a compelling, artful and fantastically straight-faced documentary portrait of the now 82-year-old Eugene Cernan. Rated: 4/5 Apr 7, 2016 Full Review Henry Barnes Guardian Craig's film deals with the fallout of the era - and how the returning heroes kept their feet on the ground - but he can't help but get swept up in the romance of the effort. Rated: 3/5 Apr 7, 2016 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture The Last Man on the Moon covers a lot of ground. Rated: 3/5 Jul 20, 2019 Full Review David Brake One Room With A View You know the history of the Apollo missions, but if a man who's been on the moon is telling you the story, you listen. Rated: 4/5 Apr 4, 2019 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy [The Last Man on the Moon] is humbling, poignant, hard-hitting, and emotionally charged, on top of being aesthetically rich and visually beautiful. K B Absolutely must see this film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Gareth v Was some what disappointed in this doco. Just seemed to be going through the motions at times. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The background music was so loud I couldn't hear what anyone was saying. It could have been a great documentary honoring real heroes. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Thoroughly fascinating and beautifully produced! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member If you've ever seen "Space Cowboys", you'll realize pretty quickly that Gene Cernan is the guy Clint Eastwood's character was modeled after - except that Gene is smarter and more down-to-earth :-) My wife and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this movie. On a side note, the movie does a very good job explaining how military spouses & families take a back-seat when duty calls (and calls, and calls), and how hard it can be to remain stateside/earthside during a mission... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member That epic period narration is a must see for those guys that had not the privilege to live it.
