The characters of the men don't deepen. Instead, the movie loses its internal quality and becomes a fairly predictable thriller about being gay in Cuba.

Great movie! Not just a gay movie but a movie where setting, economics, and aspirations are all front stage. It is a rare movie that looks into the lives of foreign gay people of color not just for the curiosity or fetish of American and European audiences.
