tom m Don't bother. I think I'm weary of watching films centered on profound societal injustices. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It is interesting to realize that the press and reporters are just as underhanded, deceitful, and willing to use others in the pursuit of a story as they always have been. I don't know if the goal was to portray Underwood as a tenacious, heroic, dedicated reporter seeking to uncover a terrible truth. If so, they failed, as he is conveyed as a treacherous, shady, conniving villain. However, that being said, the acting is quite good. It would have been better with more emphasis on the post war strategic analysis that was behind the desire to maintain the cover-up. The movie lacked the real depth necessary to tell the whole story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent film capturing duplicitous Brits, probably riddled with Bolshies under Atlee. And, once again, swarmy, upper level British homos in positions of power, lead too disgraceful conduct and deeds. While not explicitly stated, the rot in the British military and civilian hierarchy was extensive. One frame/shot pretty explicitly, and probably pretty accurately, indicates the rot extended up to Churchill. Shame on the whole British military and Foriegn Office establishment! (Just remember, including you New York Times ("Durant and crowd"), Uncle Joe would just as soon cut your throat, if he would benefit!) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A great cerebral, non formulaic, movie about a little known, dark event of WW2. Well acted! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Given the horror of the story one might have expected more tension. Too much unexplained Nevertheless it left you wanting to find out more. Perhaps it suffered from a lack of sufficient budget. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review lanfranco c They missed an opportunity to tell well an important story... Too slow ! Tori Brazier Flickering Myth The Last Witness provides an intriguing slice of history ... but more nuance and detail in the execution and story would have offered the audience far greater satisfaction. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 25, 2021 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The Last Witness tells an important story that needs to be told and know but ultimately is a lackluster film that feels like it drags on even at its 1 hour and 33 minutes runtime. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 12, 2020 Full Review Louis Proyect Counterpunch.org A reminder of how England helped to suppress reports about Stalin's murder of 22,000 Poles in 1940 when it was politically expedient. Jun 1, 2018 Full Review Nathanael Hood The Young Folks The Last Witness is similarly incapable of directly facing the slaughter, choosing instead to give glimpses of the trauma it left on the few survivors and only featuring, at most, five minutes of reenactments. Rated: 6/10 May 31, 2018 Full Review Jared Mobarak The Film Stage [Szkopiak's] familial connection to the tragedy should render it personal yet it never transcends [its lead's] narrative journey to project its inherent horror's raw emotions. Rated: C May 30, 2018 Full Review Frank Swietek One Guy's Opinion The underlying historical material for Szkopiak's film is fascinating, but the attempt to mold it into an old-fashioned cinematic thriller proves misguided.
