Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times Despite the admittedly unique angle, this ambitious drama gets crushed under the considerable weight of its artistic, as well as budgetary, limitations. Oct 6, 2016 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle "The Lennon Report" offers no special insights into Lennon, or the country, or that awful night, but it does bring back the time. It looks and feels like 1980. Rated: 3/4 Oct 6, 2016 Full Review Rob Staeger Village Voice Profe does an admirable job walking us through the day's events, weaving together the accounts of people on the scene. Oct 5, 2016 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture Built upon interesting details that haven't been widely shared, but gets bogged down in minutiae. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 20, 2019 Full Review Maitland McDonagh Film Journal International Dramatic recreation of the night John Lennon was murdered matter-of-factly recalls a dirtier, less tourist-friendly New York City and an era when bad news was no surprise. Oct 6, 2016 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com The production doesn't have the budget to fully recreate the era, but "The Lennon Report" comes through with an original vision for a dire subject matter. Andrew A Great low budget film that brings you back to the 80’s. Cast was amazing. For his first ever main actor role Walter Vincent knocked it out of the park. If they were able to raise more money this could have been a masterpiece. The movies shows a different side of the assassination of one of the most iconic musicians of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Audience Member Nothing spectacular, the trailer pretty much covers it all. Just an alright movie with Lennon as the back drop. Nothing new is presented and the movie ends with the real hospital staff and reporter who was in the hospital that night. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This could have been an excellent film; the subject is compelling and the details and POV are unique. But something critical was lacking that I can only describe as poor production values - a lack of quality that brought it down to the level of a student film or a project not yet polished and ready for release. The motley mix of actors - some with long-term careers and notable performances, and others who appeared to be novices in a high school play - was distracting and disappointing, with the actress who played the red-haired nurse striking a particularly discordant note. I commend Mr. Weiss and the producers for creating a film that reveals a side of this terrible tragedy that has never been adequately addressed; I just wish they had raised more money to give the film the 'polish' that it deserves. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Having been born after these events, I had little knowledge of what happened that nite. This film is beautifully crafted and the actors all give brilliant performances, particularly Richard Kind and his scenes interacting with fellow cast member, Gloria Mann. Their interaction as Dr Lynn and Sandra Shohen trying to decide how to negotiate Lennon's death with the media was poignant and raw. Karen Tsen Lee as Yoko Ono was dignified and heartbreaking and Rick Crom as Howard Cosell was also a standout. I highly recommend the film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Sensitive immersion in a painful night that seared a generation. Newcomer Walter Vincent is terrific! Loved the scene with Richard Kind and Gloria Mann. Devin Ratray was a much appreciated comic relief. But Karen Tsen Lee playing the grieving Yoko Ono stole the show. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The Lennon Report is a fast-paced and emotionally charged movie about the night John Lennon was killed. The stellar cast delivers great performances that give insight into the emotional impact Lennon's death had on those who tried to save him. Just when you thought you knew everything about that night 36 years ago, the movie has an interesting twist that will leave you questioning accuracy in reporting.
