Chad R A solid movie by Writer Danny Crossman from a perspective I can't say I've seen in the many war movies I've watched over the years. Nobody seems to have covered the role of Canadians in World War II and their significance. I appreciate that. Not sure how they were able to do it on a "non-Hollywood" budget, but the set pieces were great with multiple artillery, vehicles, weapons and uniforms. It all added to the authenticity of the movie. The movie sets the hook early with the inevitable suffering that occurs in a war setting. I rooted for the protagonists and without spoiling the ending, it was a satisfying end to the movie. Overall, you can tell the production crew really cared about telling a good story. Cheers. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review Lu L Visually, Liberation Men pulls you straight into the harsh realities of war with its striking cinematography. The battle scenes are intense and unflinching, but it’s the quieter moments—those of brotherhood, fear, and fleeting hope—that leave the deepest impact. The score is subtle yet powerful, enhancing the emotional tone without ever overshadowing the story. I’ll be honest—I’m not usually a fan of war films. They often feel too raw and overwhelming for me. But Liberation Men truly surprised me. Knowing the filmmakers likely had a limited budget makes what they accomplished even more impressive. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/21/25 Full Review Rich G It is a big risk to take on an indie war epic period piece on a budget, and in spite of that Liberation Men delivers. Set during the liberation of Holland, two Canadian soldiers tasked with an impossible mission—free a Dutch town. This is a beautiful war picture with heart and humanity. Something I think we could all use a dose of. Highly recommend...Give it a watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Justin A The last time I enjoyed a Canadian WW2 movie was Passchendaele. However, The Liberation Men was entertaining and refreshing to see a WW2 story about Canadian soldiers. It is rarely highlighted in Hollywood and I commend the filmmakers for creating something memorable and historical for Canadian cinema. Really good acting and well shot with great locations. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great journey of soldiers fighting during a troubling time. Well done! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review Henry K From the opening wobbly shot I managed to get about 5 minutes in, not for me, had to stop watching, it just wasn’t worth spending anymore time trying to give it a chance. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Dwayne S A Gritty, Well-Crafted WWII Indie Film Liberation Men delivers a tense, boots-on-the-ground war story that deserves attention. Set during the liberation of Holland, the film follows two Canadian soldiers tasked with an impossible mission—free a Dutch town before Allied artillery levels it. This is the kind of underdog story that indie war films thrive on, and the filmmakers make the most of their resources to tell it well. The attention to detail is impressive, from the period-accurate uniforms to the Dutch and German dialogue that adds authenticity. You can feel the passion behind this production. The battle sequences are well-staged, and the intimate cinematography keeps you in the trenches with the soldiers. While some performances are stronger than others, the overall effort is commendable. This isn’t a Hollywood blockbuster, but that works in its favor—the raw, stripped-down approach makes the story feel personal. Indie war films are tough to pull off, especially with a limited budget, but Liberation Men does an admirable job. If you're a WWII history buff or just appreciate a well-crafted war story told from a fresh perspective, this is worth checking out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Read all reviews
