Justin A The last time I enjoyed a Canadian WW2 movie was Passchendaele. However, The Liberation Men was entertaining and refreshing to see a WW2 story about Canadian soldiers. It is rarely highlighted in Hollywood and I commend the filmmakers for creating something memorable and historical for Canadian cinema. Really good acting and well shot with great locations. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great journey of soldiers fighting during a troubling time. Well done! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Dwayne S A Gritty, Well-Crafted WWII Indie Film Liberation Men delivers a tense, boots-on-the-ground war story that deserves attention. Set during the liberation of Holland, the film follows two Canadian soldiers tasked with an impossible mission—free a Dutch town before Allied artillery levels it. This is the kind of underdog story that indie war films thrive on, and the filmmakers make the most of their resources to tell it well. The attention to detail is impressive, from the period-accurate uniforms to the Dutch and German dialogue that adds authenticity. You can feel the passion behind this production. The battle sequences are well-staged, and the intimate cinematography keeps you in the trenches with the soldiers. While some performances are stronger than others, the overall effort is commendable. This isn’t a Hollywood blockbuster, but that works in its favor—the raw, stripped-down approach makes the story feel personal. Indie war films are tough to pull off, especially with a limited budget, but Liberation Men does an admirable job. If you're a WWII history buff or just appreciate a well-crafted war story told from a fresh perspective, this is worth checking out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Hassan S *The Liberation Men* is a tense and deeply human war film that pulls you into the chaos of WWII with an urgency that feels both immediate and personal. What sets this film apart isn’t just its historical accuracy or its high-stakes premise—though both are handled with care—but the way it captures the emotional toll of war on the soldiers caught in its grip. The story follows a group of Canadian soldiers racing against time to prevent an artillery strike from devastating Dutch civilians. The ticking-clock intensity keeps you fully engaged, while the raw, unfiltered performances add layers of emotional weight. These men aren’t invincible heroes—they’re flawed, exhausted, and terrified, which makes their bravery feel even more real. Visually, the cinematography does an excellent job of immersing you in the grim reality of war. The battle sequences are visceral and unflinching, yet the quieter moments—of camaraderie, fear, and fleeting hope—are what truly make the film resonate. The score complements the tension beautifully, never overpowering the narrative but subtly amplifying its emotional beats. While *The Liberation Men* doesn’t necessarily reinvent the war genre, it delivers a gripping and well-crafted story of sacrifice and resilience. It’s a film that doesn’t just depict war but makes you feel its weight. If you’re drawn to historical dramas that balance action with deep emotional stakes, this one is definitely worth your time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Alec Ybarra • Director of Photography Y This film offers a contained view of a specific event during WWII, which made it easier to grasp and for a more immersive viewing experience. The effects are well-done, especially considering this is an independent film and they added to the story. The cinematography is mostly naturalistic, with a few scenes explicitly featuring a little more stylized lighting. Going with a more natural palette made it feel gritty, providing depth to the aesthetic and time period of WWII. Some nice handheld work added to the edge-of-your-seat feeling in the third act. Overall, The Liberation Men is a well-told gritty indie thriller. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review TRAVIS G I just watched the movie THE LIBERATION MEN The movie has a lot of strong scenes that I enjoyed watching. The movie is directed by Terry Janson and written by Danny Crossman. Lead actors I enjoyed watching were also MIchael Ruhs playing the character of Roy and Jacob Perkins playing the character of Jack and Kurtis Sanheim playing the commanding officer. . The movie has good suspense, very good dialogue and drama and tons of action! It was also shot in a cool way with many cool scenes to watch. The production value is quite high! I love movies from this era and the Director and filmmakers pulled it off! The action pulls you in many directions as you're watching this movie. I also thought the lead actors had great onscreen chemistry– they were great together and the suspense was very high. The sets are believable for an indie movie. I look forward to what this director and filmmaker can achieve in his upcoming bright career! Check this movie out! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
