Shane B Not only is this indie impressive in its cast count, with many speaking multiple languages, but the telling of the tale from - not only the Canadian Army's perspective - but about the Holland occupation lends a new view and keeps it from being 'just another war film'. Impressive too is its ability to feature great locations, costumes, weapons, props, and other period appropriate military paraphernalia. Indie film often has it's limitations but this one outshines them. You could tell that lot of thought went into creating the production details and I personally found them really cool. This film was a throwback to the war films that you would've seen in the 1950s, with an emphasis and character development and dialogue-driven narrative. The film's strength is in a few of ikey and very heartfelt scenes, when the main protagonist pleads for the lives of the civilians in town, and goes about doing everything he can, as a lower ranked enlisted member to change the course of history. As a veteran myself, it was interesting to see many of the details that went into this project, but I also noticed some obvious inconsistencies that kept me on my toes, actually! Overall, This is an excellent film, and the filmmakers did an incredible job creating a sense of place. Production values are likewise top notch. For those out there who enjoy throwback war films, you'll probably find this one to be a gratifying watch. The production design team did a great job, too. From creating a realistic hospital (hospital beds, medical equipment, etc.) from the WWII era to creating convincing battlegrounds. I appreciate what the filmmakers where doing. A job well done. A herculean effort on the part of the filmmakers to make this movie work with a relatively tight budget. The costumes, for example. Not to mention the tanks, etc. Wow! I commend all involved for pouring their heart and soul into creating this film. Check it out!
