Aldo G This psychological noir was a pleasant surprise. Saw it to see Robert Mitchum in a supporting role and loved all the performances. Script is smart and direction treats it so. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review mark g Innovative movie, with a flashback leading to another flashback. Laraine Day is absolutely brilliant in her role as a very complex case study. Mitchum great as always. This film is just clever, very clever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Audience Member John Brahm's moody film noir is notorious as the movie with a flashback inside of a flashback inside of a flashback. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Laraine Day seems too good to be true...because she's a sociopath. However, her fiancé doesn't know the dark truth about her and it is up to Brian Aherne, her former husband and psychiatrist (of course), to tell him. When Aherne shows up on the wedding day, he isn't welcomed but he still gets to tell his tale which famously involves a flashback within a flashback within a flashback. The middle flashback is offered by none other than a young Robert Mitchum, as an artist who once romanced Day and caught her stealing and lying and maybe murdering. Somehow he tells Ahern about one of Day's own childhood memories that is seen in flashback. No one is sure if any of these narrators is reliable and Day denies it all until the end. The psychologizing is all a bit too pat and the film contains at least one leap of logic but otherwise it is a solid noir-ish drama. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review s r Groundbreaking film noir filled with flashbacks a plenty. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Great story within a story within a story. Lots of twists centered around the life of of women who was experience psychological trauma early in life. There are plenty of psychological theories expressed throughout. The ending could have been improved closing the door for anything good or positive change in the star actress. Robert Mitchum's role was a bit intense and a out of place considering the way he left building. All-around suspenseful and entertaining with a dash of WWII life in England and a taste of conflict between rich and poor interwoven.
