Critics Consensus

Led by an impressive Riley Keough performance, The Lodge should prove a suitably unsettling destination for fans of darkly atmospheric horror.

Perfectly paced, each film places viewers in purgatory along with the protagonists. Go to Full Review

Keough's work is so strong, so effective, that by the time we learn the ultimate fate of Grace, we would have bought into any of the possible options. Go to Full Review

While The Lodge isn't as hearty as the horror films it desperately wants to emulate, the filmmakers have concocted a heavy stew of emotions, left on a low simmer. Go to Full Review

While I had quite a good time with the movie I must say, the content is deadly serious and fairly heavy, which left me with a gross taste in my mouth at the end, but that’s part of the allure. Go to Full Review

The Lodge is an unapologetically, relentlessly bleak as hell watch, one made all the more memorable by the commitment of the talent both behind and in front of the camera. Go to Full Review

"The Lodge" is one of those films that you think about from time to time; I certainly do. With Keough playing one of the most harrowing roles, the film serves as a chilling cautionary tale with eye-catching cinematography and strong writing. Go to Full Review

Joshua T 03/16/2020 The twist is really good on this one. See more 03/13/2020 For once I agree more with the critics than the audience: this film is better than its (very limited) commercial success suggests. The story of a soon-to-be stepmom who gets snowed in with her soon-to-be stepchildren doesn't give away its solution till the end...and keeps surprising even after that. The movie also offers -shall we say- unexpected events, not just jump scares, and all three major characters do a fine job in the acting department. See more AG 03/09/2020 Sad and intriguing. Well worth seeing. See more Mr J 03/08/2020 Meh seems like the director purposely lagged the acting bc there wasn’t enough story See more Mike 03/07/2020 Not a great movie! I wish I would have watched different one. See more Jesse 03/06/2020 This movie was very intense. Its not like a lot of cookie cutter horror movies. It makes you think constantly and question what you are seeing. Definitely a new spin on a story. It made me want to give my infants a big kiss when I got home because of how it ends. Dont see if you dont like thinking while watching a movie. See more Read all reviews
