An old man walks the dusty roads between his isolated farm and the nearby rural village in the company of a silent spirit whose death he witnessed fifty years earlier. For decades, the old man's regret over losing his mother to tuberculosis has bred a pathological need to ease the suffering of the terminally ill, and over the years, he has quietly euthanized several sick women. As he realizes that his spectral companion is able to transport him back in time, the old man trespasses into his own past to set in motion a plan to convince his younger self to preempt his mother's terminal suffering.

Do was marked as a filmmaker to watch. Her third effort shows maturation and improvement that supports that claim. Her unique voice and heady themes won't appeal to everyone, however.

Accompanied by a spirit whose death he witnessed, an old man walks the roads from his home to the village. Once he learns the spirit can transport him back in time he decides to alter his past. I'm not sure I've ever viewed a film from Laos before. The story is bleak and hits the viewer emotionally. It is a slowly paced film but I was never bored. Very intelligent, elegant, and simple.

I watched this movie a week ago and can't get it out of my head. I don't fully understand it all. But, I know I love it. Definitely one that will take multiple viewings. Which I'm definitely up for. Wish there were more like it.

The Long Walk is an epic experience that, despite taking place in the same bit of land, spans decades of pain and rage. It's a film that digs into your heart and chokes you with tears. It's a masterpiece in genre filmmaking.

Simple and complicated, dark and beautiful. I was mesmerized from start to finish. Imagine how much richer the film industry would be if we found actual talent like this in the world and enriched it (diverting funds from 50+ million dollar American atrocities). This competes with some of the best films I've seen in the last 5 years.
