The Luring is enough of a novelty among locally shot films to deserve notice. Wells takes risks with his storytelling, and at least two shots will stick with me... Go to Full Review

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It might be, but if you're attempting to imitate something great and you don't have the chops to match it, then you come across as a very poor imitation indeed. Go to Full Review

There are some moderately decent performances that would pass muster in a more traditional slasher flick, but since The Luring relies heavily more on dramatic tension than gore, the cast is not able to shoulder that burden. Go to Full Review

Caroline B @RT55969446 Jul 29 "The Luring" is a haunting journey into the depths of memory and trauma, with no hope of redemption. From the very first scene, the film immerses you in a quiet, brooding atmosphere that gradually unfurls secrets long buried. The story centers on a man returning to his family's vacation house with his girlfriend (Michaela Sprague) in Vermont—a setting that feels both idyllic and ominous. The landscapes are rendered with a painterly quality, yet isolating. The narrative delicately balances suspense, exploring how the weight of an unspoken act from his childhood continues to cast a shadow and negatively influence his life. The lead (Rick Irwin) delivers a compelling performance filled with subtlety, capturing the complex layers. Garrett’s evolution from a caring and affectionate partner to a drastically different persona evokes memories of "The Shining." I eagerly anticipate watching more films directed by Christopher Wells in the future. The production quality is impressive, with a keen eye for detail that elevates the overall viewing experience. The color grade enhances the atmospheric tension, creating an immersive backdrop that draws the audience in. The scoring is another standout element—haunting and beautifully composed, it perfectly complements the film's emotional arc. Each note seems to resonate with the characters' journeys, heightening the impact of key moments. The performances across the board are commendable. Each actor brings depth and authenticity to their roles, making the characters feel real and relatable. The chemistry between them adds to the film's dynamic, drawing you into the narrative. Overall, The Luring is a testament to the power of independent cinema. It masterfully combines stunning visuals, compelling performances, and a captivating score to create a memorable film.” Highly recommended! -@SwerveXproductions K Hannah See more Larry W @RT29538498 09/07/2024 I’ve got to admit, it totally surprised me. The acting was spot-on—natural, believable, and just what you want from an indie film. The camera work, especially the moving shots, was really well done too. Loved the nod to “The Shining” with the guy in the hat selling the house. It was done with style. The relationship between the two main characters, which goes really dark, was handled excellently. The performances were realistic and didn’t feel forced or amateur. The final “add-on” ending gives us a little extra to chew on. Hats off to everyone involved. See more Victoria V @RT37715185 08/07/2024 This was a very competently made film, great camerawork, nice score. The acting wasn't stellar, but it wasn't so terrible it took you out of the story or anything like that. The leads did a solid job. I felt the director succeeded in building tension and mystery and the film had nice pacing, no dragging here, which can happen so easily in so many contained films. I think they did a good job keeping the tension and keeping the story moving. I would consider it more psychological thriller than horror film. It is an indie, so as long as you watch it with that in mind, if you're a fan of thrillers and mysteries, especially stuff with a psychological bend, I think you will enjoy!!! See more Michael G @RT90750281 07/24/2024 "The Luring" is a horror film that cleverly proves you don’t need a mansion to hide your skeletons — just a creepy family vacation home in Vermont. Directed by Christopher Wells, the movie follows Rick Irwin's character, Garrett, as he unlocks childhood memories through scenes reminiscent of the 'It' movies. The eerie cinematography and unsettling narrative, make you wonder if you left the stove on or if it's just the ghosts messing with you. With its twisty plot and unpredictable scares, "The Luring" is a psychological and disturbing ride that’s as unsettling as finding out your house has a basement you never knew about. If you liked the 'It' movies, be sure to check this film out... just don't follow any red balloons being pulled into dark spaces. See more Michael R @RT74719251 07/09/2024 The Luring is not just a horror movie; it's an exploration of the human psyche and the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface. It's a film that not only scares but also provokes thought, lingering long after the credits roll. For fans of the genre looking for something that pushes the boundaries, The Luring is a must-watch. It's a compelling reminder of how powerful and immersive psychological thrillers can be when executed with passion and precision. Loved it! See more Read all reviews
