      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Magnificent Seven never really lives up to the superlative in its title -- or the classics from which it draws inspiration -- but remains a moderately diverting action thriller on its own merits.

Andrea C Remake tanto semplice quanto spettacolare e ben riuscito. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review David P One of my faves. Good cowboy movie Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Blu B On it's own it's a good movie, but as a remake it's half decent. The pacing isn't bad but is the biggest change here compared the original despite being almost exactly the same runtime whoch is weird. It takes about 10-15 minutes longer for the team to assemble and it sort of starts to drag a bit. It also goes for more character driven moments in the middle which the original did too for certain members but it isn't as tightly done with the main story if that makes sense. The ending also which is very entertaining, is a little bit over the top and feels like it's an absurd amount of bad guys like zombie hordes. It feels like this somehow is slower at points but also too fast somehow but still works suprisngly. This is mainly because the direction and everything else is solid. Denzel is the best character and the cinematography in terms of special effects, camerawork, lighting, framing, and set design are all top notch. The problem is the characters aren't as memorable as the ones in the original and don't have as good chemistry as a whole as the others did. Chris Pratt isn't bad but he doesn't carry the same kind of cool factor that someone like McQueen did. Garcia is easily the most forgettable character of all of the "Seven" movies and it's lame he survived. D'Nofrio is kind of bizarre and I wish they would've made Hawke more darker instead of a con man liar. The villian is one of the weakest parts and is just ok and super forgettable. He isn't even close to Eli Wallach's performance. As well done as everything is here, nothing is really better than how the 1960 one did it and doesn't really add anything. Save for the indian member who was awesome and the coolest member. That's probably the best thing this added. The action also can feel a bit over the top too and the more quiet scenes don't stick out as much as the rest of the film does. It hits for the most part the same beats the original did on a bigger picture with no real radical changes. Which begs the question why this was made. They should've done what they did with the original which was effectively a remake of the Seven Samurai. Take the idea and put it in a new setting with new characters told in a new way. anyone who is a fan of the director, any actors in this, or modern westerns should give this a try. I guess anyone who hasn't seen the original would like this and honestly I thin most people would. But it's not really better than either of its predecessors. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Larry S I grew up with the original. This one had its moments. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Sabrina B LOVED. IT!!!! It had several background stories, comedy, action, drama. A sense of accomplishment at the end. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Tim S Long and boring with acting that doesn't live up to the original. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Kristen Lopez Culturess This new take on The Magnificent Seven boasts another A-list cast, but forsakes characters for bloodless, PG-13 action that entertains without resonating. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review John Wenzel Denver Post As things build toward the long, bloody and by-the-numbers (if ably staged) showdown, it's hard not to mourn for the film this could have been, considering the assemblage of talent. Rated: 2/4 Dec 14, 2016 Full Review Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association It's respectful of the past, while it blazes into the future of a genre that is as American as covered wagons. Nov 8, 2016 Full Review Zach Pope Zach Pope Reviews A solid remake with an excellent cast Aug 7, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It’s an action romp, and Denzel and company pull it off nicely.
