At the height of the Cold War, a mysterious criminal organization plans to use nuclear weapons and technology to upset the fragile balance of power between the United States and Soviet Union. CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB agent Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) are forced to put aside their hostilities and work together to stop the evildoers in their tracks. The duo's only lead is the daughter of a missing German scientist, whom they must find soon to prevent a global catastrophe.

For instance, when Illya Kuryakin rips up the hotel room toward the end. (No spoiler alert here. It's the "why" that counts). The acting was terrific throughout. And the direction was, of course, terrific as well. It's a Guy Ritchie film. The movie was compelling. It bombed when it came out, so I was half expecting to check it out briefly, then exit to watch something else. But it kept my interest, amused me, entertained me, and now, like so many others who've seen it on Netflix, I'm wondering and hoping for a Man From U.N.C.L.E 2. No doubt they'll fix the bugs, as Mission Impossible did after M.I. 2, which totally missed the mark. MfU is already close, very close, to being right there where it needs to be to be a successful franchise. I WILL miss Armie Hammer, though. He was great as Russian agent Kuryakin. But man oh man did he screw up. I have NO doubt the charges against him were inflated. He admitted to being emotionally cruel, and the BDSM was consensual. But all that "eating" was sensationalism. I doubt very much that he is The Jeffrey Dahmer of Hollywood. But it was there at the birth of MeToo, so he never had a chance. Good actor Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review Read all reviews
