Critics Consensus

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. tries to distract from an unremarkable story with charismatic stars and fizzy set pieces, adding up to an uneven action thriller with just enough style to overcome its lack of substance.

Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) It succeeds admirably on its own terms - more so, I think, than his two Sherlock Holmes films - and while it never really transcends pastiche, its ambitions don't lie in that direction. May 28, 2019 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian The high-octane thrill of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock films has been replaced by boring, hot guys suavely saving the world in this remake of the 60s TV show. Rated: 2/5 May 28, 2019 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine I enjoyed The Man from U.N.C.L.E well enough, and I suspect you will, too. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 12, 2016 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy A worthwhile endeavor, with Ritchie toning down the spastic shooting style that all but destroyed his Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jr. Rated: 3/4 Nov 12, 2025 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins The combination of cheeky characters, quirky camerawork, upbeat music (or highly contrasting tunes), snazzy editing, and loads of humor helps to make this project consistently entertaining. Rated: 6/10 Aug 23, 2025 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson In true spy movie fashion, the twists, turns, double crosses, and double agents pepper in nicely beside lavish locations, smooth style, and cunning action sequences. Jeff P. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a uniquely and brilliantly shot film that brings two adversaries together as unlikely allies in a stylish homage to the Cold War. Set in the 1960s, the story follows CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin, who are forced to put aside their rivalry to stop a criminal organization from acquiring nuclear weapons. Their mission takes them across Europe as they work with a resourceful young woman connected to the threat. Its sharp cinematography elevates every moment, offering clarity even as the plot takes its share of twists and turns. The film captures suspense without ever feeling slow or bloated, maintaining a confident pace that keeps you engaged from start to finish. With its perfect balance of thrills and well-timed humor, this spy adventure delivers both tension and charm. It’s a fun, sleek, and refreshingly spirited take on the genre that stands out among modern spy thrillers. 86/100 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/20/25 Full Review Frans B Guy Ritchie did good here, again. Great story, well written. Almost "cartoonish" feel to it. Stellar cast all excels in character, convincingly. Great cinematography and visually very pleasing. Succeeded in creating the relevant ambiance. Witty, very charming, lots of fast moving action, twists, intrigue, nonchalant flair and drama galore. Never a dull moment, was nice to watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/02/25 Full Review Mate P The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is funny, intriguing and well-shot. The characters are good and very likeable. It's funny how they made me realize everything just before the characters. Although the twists around Gaby don't count, as I thought they were pretty predictable. The dialogues are funny, but sometimes unnatural. The situations van be incredibly funny and stupid. My favourite quote and scene was probably this: "Damn, I left my jacket in there." The directing is great. The light, fun tone fits the characters and story perfectly. The cinematography is good, I especially loved the camera movement. The editing is not bad, but this film does feel long despite the reasonable runtime. The soundtrack is awesome and the cast is incredible. I only knew Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer would be in this, so I was surprised to see Jared Harris, Alicia Vikander and Hugh Grant. The performances are great. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is incredibly funny, but it's slower than it should be. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/25/25 Full Review Mark B The leads are great and the movie really works . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/15/25 Full Review Maddie O Cannot recommend this enough, I have watched, and re-watched, and re-re-watched over & over. I never get bored of the action or the story line or the drama full of twists and turns... If you are thinking of giving this a watch I don't know what you are waiting for ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/25 Full Review Kashgar A God I love this movie. Sharp, witty, fun. Now I just want to see the sequel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
